Great People, Great Facilities, Great Location
My wife and I moved into Wavecrest during the pandemic as a couple, and what we found was more than just an apartment complexĆĀ¢Ć¢āĀ¬Ć¢ā¬ļæ½it became a true neighborhood of friends. The sense of community here is remarkable. From casual greetings like ĆĀ¢Ć¢āĀ¬Ć āhave a great day at workĆĀ¢Ć¢āĀ¬Ćļæ½ as we passed neighbors to celebrating personal milestones such as our engagement and marriage, the people at Wavecrest made us feel like we were part of something special. The pool was a fantastic community hub where you'd see everything from kids playing to neighbors working out or even testing 3D-printed fishing flies. The lawn made for a perfect spot to picnic, too! As for management, Andrea and her team have always been fantastic. Maintenance was thorough and proactiveĆĀ¢Ć¢āĀ¬Ć¢ā¬ļæ½when we found some water damage, they didnĆĀ¢Ć¢āĀ¬Ć¢āĀ¢t just patch things up but completely removed the drywall to ensure no mold issues. We also had our bathtub resurfaced promptly when it started peeling. Andrea is responsive and makes sure every issue is handled with care and professionalism. Our apartment itself was wonderfulĆĀ¢Ć¢āĀ¬Ć¢ā¬ļæ½high ceilings perfect for our tall bookshelves, a ground-floor unit with a backyard, and the freedom to personalize our outdoor space. Peaceful Alameda Property
My wife and I enjoyed our time at this peaceful spot in Alameda. The community was relaxed and our neighbors friendly. It is a short walk to the South Shore Center for groceries, restaurants, retail, and a post office. If you want to go for a longer walk or play in the sand a little, the shore line is just on the other side of the same block. You should visit if you are considering living the area and see if it will be a good fit for you too.

Old Apartments with outdated appliances
Wanted to provide an honest review of Wavecrest Lanai: Apartments: The building itself is very old and feels shaky. I lived on the 2nd floor and the floor used to creak whenever I used to walk on it which must have been annoying to the neighbor downstairs. The apartment overall felt spacious but very ābox-yā given the layout. The kitchen appliances were of low quality and do not have a microwave which was a big inconvenience. The bathroom (and the sink) were very small. One of my biggest concerns in the apartment was the popcorn ceiling which collects dust, if not contain asbestos which is very dangerous. Safety: It is safe and quiet neighborhood, however, there have been several incidents where my packages were missing/stolen and there are no CCTV cameras to keep track of theft. There is no package room and all of the packages are left outside which was a big inconvenience. Amenities: There is a pool but Iāve not seen anyone use it. There is a laundry room on-site however it is very expensive with $2.50 for each washer/dryer cycle. There have been several times where residents never used to clean the lint filter and it wasā¦Ā See More>anonymous

READ YOU LEASE CAREFULLY. They will increase your rent after the lease is signed by as much as $200. You have to pay for everything. That gym the boost of comes with a separate monthly membership. There is no parking. I you want parking in the garage it comes at a fee of $100/month in addition to your rent. The area is not safe. Homeless people are all over the place. The staff are very unprofessional. Beware!!!!

Not worth it.
I've lived there for 20 months before moving right across the street. Starting with the kitchen - for one, it's extremely small. You can't have more than one person in there at a time, you can't open the stove when the dish washer is open, and there's extreme lack of counter space. If you like to spend time in the kitchen, I'd stay away. The unit I lived in had probably the cheapest cabinetry that I've ever seen - not even a piece of plastic spacer for the drawers, so they were always getting stuck and had a pretty bad flaking coat of paint to cover up the fact that they were basically just plywood nailed together. Oh yeah, and a lot of cabinet space is fairly high up, so if you're short, half the cabinet space won't be accessible to you. Bathroom is also extremely small, so small, in fact, that the shelves are directly above the toilet. I think we probably threw away about $100 worth of cosmetics, toiletries, soaps, toothbrushes, etc that fell in the toilet. Instead of having nice porcelain bathtubs and washbasins, it's those cheap plastic versions, so no matterā¦Ā See More>anonymous

Don't live here
Josh is a complete jerk and the new guy that sits at his desk is just as bad. They are unfriendly and not personable at all. Having rented many times before you can be a good apartment manager and still be friendly. I can't wait to move from this place. The apatments are small and not worth the rent that was just raised by $80. The paint is peeling off the doors, which Josh was supposed to send someone up here to paint over about six months ago. We have a one person at a time rule for our kitchen because it is so small. We have a two bedroom and still don't have enough closet space for th two of us. The plus side is it is fairly quiet, although I can sometimes hear my neighbors TV through the wall and I feel pretty safe, although someone did try to break into my car that was parked on the street and one day a couple cars had their tires slashed randomly.

Not bad for the price
I've read some of these reviews, and while I agree the manager may not be willing to give away the store whenever a tenant wants something, I understand he has to do what the management company wants him to do. It would be nice if the property and the management could be a little more personal, but...if you want a personal touch, rent a room in someone's house. I don't need the manager much, so I don't have much of a problem with him. When I have a maintenance need, it's resolved promptly, and someone's always on call for after-hours emegencies. My apartment is a decent size. The kitchen is small, but since I'm just one person, I don't have a problem with it. No, I can't have both the dishwasher AND the oven door open at the same time, but how many people need to do that? I can't stand in front of the oven and open the door, but I can stand just to the side, and isn't that good enough? And when I'm at the stove or the sink, I can reach just about anything I need. Not all the parking is covered, and it took aboutā¦Ā See More>tomatoesaregood

LOVE it here!
I live in a 2br apartment on the ground floor = a patio for my container garden. The laundry rooms are clean (not all gunky and weird, like my last place), and the gate security system allows me to open the gate with my cell phone AND I can buzz visitors into the property from work (how cool is that?!)if I forgot to give them the gate thingy. I love that I am so close to South Shore Centre where I get pretty much everything. I don't pay for cable t.v. because there's basic cable already hooked up. The manager has always been helpful to me, he has helped me in the past with noisy neighbors (usually very quiet here, except for the occasional weirdness, but it was cleared up fast). Josh has the property pay for my carpets to be cleaned once a year (not many people know about this policy), and he arranged for me to get a parking space close to my apartment as soon as another tenant moved out and the new space was available. He also got me a storage locker as soon as one opened up, I understandā¦Ā See More>anonymous

Hospitality be darned!
Since living here I have had to deal with the apartment manager twice, on both occasions he managed to live up to his pompus reputation. He is self-righteous, demeaning, and uncompromising. There are multiple tenants that could potentially benefit from having two gate openers for the parking area, however he refuses to issue more than one. To some, dealings with the apartment manager are small potatoes and prefer to hear that the buildings are in decent shape, the grounds are kept up fairly well, the 2nd level floors creek, there are no doorbells, there are np built in a/c units of forced air, only one parking spot for each unit, street parking, a block from the beach, a block from a shopping center, etc etc... But honestly, I am going to move simply to avoid further encounters with Josh.

Apt Manager Doesnt Take Care of Good Tenants
The Mgr (Josh) is an extremely condescending person who is apathetic to the needs of loyal tenants and a pain to deal with. He will do little to nothing to protect good tenants who have remained at the apartments for years, pay rent on time, are never complained about and who in turn do not complain about others. He is also controlling and will do everything within his power to prevent tenants from going over his head to discuss matters with the corporate office.

Nice apartments horrible manager
The apartments are nice, but the apartment manager is a pain in the a** to deal with. He is indifferent to the problems of tenant. We moved out of these apartments after our lease expired. I personally know a couple of more tenants who are waiting to move out from here.

The apartments are nice but the manager is indifferent to the problems of the tenants. He seems to blame his superiors for problems he can take care off.

Great Management!
My husband and I have been renting in various states for the past 8 years, and this was hands down the best experience we've ever had.

Renting in Alameda in general is a great alternative to living in San Francisco if you don't mind being a short ferry ride away from city life. First and foremost, it's cheaper. But it's also a nice little island community. Lots of friendly small families and young professionals.

We had a two bedroom end unit above the laundry room, so we would get some laundry noise every once in a while, but nothing worth complaining about. The apartments are arranged in a courtyard, so if there's some a-hole playing music really loud or kids running around outside, you can hear it. But other than that, it was a very quiet complex...the quietest we've ever lived in.

The kitchen is a little small on square footage, but it has a ton of storage space...more than I have in my current 2000 square foot house. And yes, the floors are a little uneven, but not anywhere near being unsafe. And just as a side note, all of Alameda is builtā¦Ā See More>anonymous

Don't rent downstairs!
I've lived here for several months, and had the misfortune of picking the unit below an insomniac. I am constantly woken up at 3 and 4 am by the creaking of the floorboards as he paces (it's ridiculously loud), and I hear every drum beat of the music he plays (at all hours). There is absolutely no sound-proofing between your ceiling and the floor above, so even if you're tempted by the nice patios downstairs - like I was - if you're determined to live here, rent upstairs!

Ok... if you don't need a lot of space
The complex is great, the grounds are well-kept. And here's the but... The apartment is incredibly small if you've got regular-sized furniture. The kitchen is so tiny, you can't even put a microwave on any of the counter! Also, the foundations are sagging (it's built on landfill), so one part of the apartment is higher than the other... kind of scary! The aparttments were built in the 1960's, and not much has been done to upgrade except for purely cosmetic enhancements.

my first apartment
ah the memories. lanai apartments was a wonderful place to live. i was there between jun '04 and jun '05. this was my first apartment, and i think it was quite a find. i loved it.

the cons:
1) the swimming pool (for lanai apts) was in reconstruction for the longest time. i didn't mind, but my friends who wanted to visit me were anxious.
2) since there isn't air conditioning, a few days in the summer got really hot. i bought a cooler fan to help.
3) sound passes through windows fairly easily. my neighbors were generally quieter than a dorm, but i could still hear some phone conversations of the more vociferous ones.

the pros:
1) the manager, josh, is totally on the ball. he answers all my questions and concerns promptly and professionally.
2) the building and grounds are really nice. it's a very welcoming atmosphere.
3) the price. it's a great deal! when i moved to another city, i realized how much more i got for my money there.
4) the people. it's homely enough for a family, but lively enough for singles. my applause to the person who started the book swap in the laundry room. if you ever stumble across "the silent gondoliers"ā¦Ā See More>anonymous

glad I chose them
I am glad I decided to move into this place. I didn't have much time to look before my move, I found them online and rented as soon as I saw the apartment available.

Now that I'm here (and I have more time to shop around for when my lease is up), I am discovering that the storage, parking, and the size of my patio are really good (and included, not an extra fee).

When my lease is up next year, I will probably stay here. Other places in the neighborhood just don't have what I want for the price.

I got lucky this time, save yourself some trouble and look this one over.

Thumbs up.
Very nice apartments. Location is hard to beat. Very helpful manager.
Parking is not a problem because there is ALWAYS safe street parking on the streets that are perpendicular to Franciscan.
My only complaint is that the windows are very poor quality except for the few that have recently been replaced.

We moved in at the beginning of July 2003 and have been very happy here. The residential manager Josh is fantastic. It is close to the beach, a park, shopping and an elementary school.

Fantasitc location, very nice property...
Like this place a lot. The location is the best, a block off the beach, I hate being on the beach; noise, traffic, and expensive. All shopping a block in the other direction. New four color paint job and a ton of new landscaping went in last year. It really does look VERY nice. You will not be ashamed to have guests. Very peacefull with lots of open grounds. Gated parking. A REAL MANAGER. In a REAL OFFICE. What a shock! Repairs get done. These peple sent me a rent DEcrease letter when the market softened, even though I was only halfway through my lease. Highly recommended.
