Relatively good value
Despite my individual ratings for Lakewood, I would recommend this place under certain conditions. The building is old and dilapidated. It´s really falling apart and showed its age last year during the heavy rains in December 2002. The electricity went out numerous times to the point where it was a major inconvenience. However, PG&E is responsible for the power lines running to the complex, and PG&E is mostly responsible for the power problems. As for the water problems, Lakewood is responsible for that. Less reliable than the power, the water problems caused major inconveniences. The plumbing of some of the buildings had to be overhauled causing the water service to be disrupted many times.
The place is dark and dingy with really no hope for improvement. The hallways have a low ceiling and not very well lit. Parking is adequate (for one car) and street parking is available. The neighborhood is questionable at best. Lake Merced is right across the street and it´s beautiful.
I recommend this place because: it´s comparatively cheap, it has great freeway access to 280/101 and Skyline/35, and it´s right across from Lake Merced. Live here if you don´t have kids, have a tight budget, need to commute outside the city, don´t mind a little danger (you only live once!), can co-exist with neighbors (very thin walls), and don´t mind the power/water problems. It´s cheaper than just about everywhere else.Share This Review
