Lamentably, I´ve lived here six years and counting...
...but I sure wish I could afford to live elsewhere.

Positives:

easy access to 280, Skyline, Great Highway
Lake Merced across street; it doesn´t feel like you´re in the city
covered garage included in rent price
apartments functional, though uninspired
rent is not exhorbitant relative to San Francisco and has come way down from what they were charging new tenants during the dot-com boom

Negatives

- dark, dreary, psychiatric institution feel--the place has long, twisting hallways and anonymous-looking doors on both sides like a Soviet prison--over 700 units is not conducive to individuality
- I´ve lived here all this time and I don´t know my neighbors at all, except when the police knock on our door and ask questions about them; the lack of social interaction makes this a good place for terrorists
- when windy winter storms hit, expect to lose power for many hours at a time; add spooky candlelight vigils to the dreariness
- as with any large apartment complex, expect occasional loud parties which you are helpless to do anything about
- since I´ve been here, I´ve heard of cases of auto theft, arson, burglary and most spectacularly a murder back in 1998; vandalism is endemic
- elevators, water work most of the time--not all of the time

In general, if you are on a tight budget, are oblivious to aesthetics, are anti-social and have a high tolerance threshhold for creepiness this is a pretty good deal on the basis of a fair rental price with parking.
