ApartmentRatings.com provides an organized venue for renters to share their experiences and opinions, bringing the Internet's vast potential for person-to-person information sharing to the market for rental housing.
How do people find out about ApartmentRatings.com?
We thrive in large part thanks to word-of-mouth, PR, grass-roots efforts, and free advertising. We are listed in all of the major search engines and we have been featured by media such as The Washington Post, ABC News 7 - San Francisco, and News8Austin.
Does ApartmentRatings.com sell advertising?
Yes, but not to apartment communities. We don't sell advertising to apartment communities because to do so would create a conflict of loyalty between our advertisers and our users. For all other moving, relocation, and housing companies, we offer several flexible advertising packages at very reasonable rates. Contact us for more information.
Is ApartmentRatings.com responsible for the opinions that its users post on this site?
No. The reviews posted on this web site are generally protected by the First Amendment of the United States Constitution and ApartmentRatings.com makes them available under protection of The Communications Decency Act of 1996 (CDA) 47 U.S.C. Section 230 ("Section 230") and supporting case law.

ApartmentRatings.com, a division of MH Sub I, LLC dba Internet Brands provides this service because the law is profoundly clear on this issue. Congress specifically exempted interactive online services from liability for content authored by third-parties that is posted on a web site. How long will an opinion stay on the site?
Currently, we don't have a policy for expiring reviewers' opinions.
Under what circumstances will an opinion be removed from ApartmentRatings.com?
If a review violates the ApartmentRatings.com User Agreement, it may be removed from the site.
Does ApartmentRatings.com filter or pre-screen opinions before they are posted to its site?
No, we do not filter or pre-screen any of the opinions posted to the site. We act as a passive conduit for information. As a result, we provide no guarantee as to the accuracy of the comments made in any particular opinion posted to the site. Like all user-submitted content on the Internet, visitors must judge for themselves the truthfulness and applicability of any opinions they read. Reviews posted on ApartmentRatings.com must be judged similar to the comments of an anonymous stranger who might approach you on the street. Only you can decide if the author's comments are true or not.

How To Write/Edit/Remove/Flag Reviews

How to write a review?
  1. Locate the apartment community on ApartmentRatings.com.

  2. Once you've found your apartment, click its name to view its summary page.

  3. On the apartment's summary page, click "Write a review".

  4. On the review form, create a review that clearly explains your resident experience so far and includes details that will help other renters during their apartment search.

    5. Help your fellow renters get the most out of your review with the following tips:

    Be Specific

    Don't just complain about something; rather, describe specific things you do or don't like. Explain what happened. We've found users lend more weight to a review with details.

    Be Courteous and Honest

    Describe your experience, be it good or bad, but don't go overboard. Keep your review precise and to the point. We value open expression, but profanity and hateful speech are not allowed on the site.

    No Personal Info

    We don't allow reviews with names, phone numbers, email or other contact info, so please avoid using it.

    In the last question, you can mark whether you want your review to appear anonymously or with your email address-- it's your choice.

  5. When you click Submit, you will be required to create a username and password (allows you to log in, create a user persona, receive future notifications about your review and other information relevant to you, and update your review as needed.) Fill in the registration information, click Submit, and your review will immediately appear online.
How to change/delete my review?
You can edit or delete your review and/or response by simply logging in using the My Review page on ApartmentRatings.com.

Once you login, you will be taken to our Control Panel and the menu of all of your reviews. Find the one that you would like to change, click "Update" to change the review or click the trash icon to delete the review. Finally, click "Post Review" to finish the change. Please give the site 5 minutes to update the content.

Please note that whenever you update your review, it will be moved to the top of the reviews on the community's page. Additionally, our policy allows you to edit a review within a 7-day window. After 7 days, you will no longer be able to edit a review - if you have changes to your review, you will have to write a new one. Our system will then add it as a thread to your existing review to show all reviews made by you for the same community on one thread. There is no time limitation, however, to delete a review. You may delete a review at any time when you login to your account.
Why is my response not anonymous?
If you would like to remain anonymous but accidentally choose your username or email address, please remember that you have 7 days to edit it. You can edit or delete your review and/or response by simply logging in using the My Review page on ApartmentRatings.com.

Once you log in you will be taken to our Control Panel and the menu of all of your reviews. Find the one that you would like to change and click "Update" to change the review. The last question asks: "When you write and post a review, how would you like to be identified as an author?" Make sure to select 'Remain anonymous (no profile picture displayed)'. Then click 'Post Review' to update and post your review. Please give the site 5 minutes to update the content.
Why was my review not accepted?
ApartmentRatings.com does not pre-screen reviews, so you should be fully able to post a review. Occasionally our site encounters problems during the process of posting reviews and user registration. Please verify that you have cookies enabled on your computer (our system requires cookies to authenticate users). Also, if our system sees your review as spam, change the wording of your review being careful not to use the same word over and over again.

Keep in mind that our system may be requiring email verification for your review to post. If this is the case, you will need to click on the link contained in the email sent from us. To check if this is the case, simply log in using the My Account page. If you see a message under your email address that says "Not Verified - Click Here To Resend Email", you will need to click that link and then go back to your email to verify. Once you have verified your email address, your review will be posted.
How to report a review?
    If you would like to report specific content (written opinions, photographs, and other materials) that violates the ApartmentRatings User Agreement, please report the review directly on the property's page.

    Upon being reported, our abuse team will determine if the review is in violation of the ApartmentRatings User Agreement. If it is in violation, it will be removed or partially removed. You will receive an email notification if the review is being removed or not.

    If you suspect that a review has any of the below issues, click the 'Report' flag icon below the review (you must be logged into your user account). This will alert our abuse team to review it for adherence to the ApartmentRatings.com User Agreement. We are not in a position to judge the truthfulness of any author's comments and we will not attempt to intervene in resident-landlord disputes.

    1. It contains false information
    2. It was posted by someone affiliated with the community
    3. It was posted by a competitor, ex-employee or evicted resident
    4. It contains threats, lewdness or hate speech
    5. It violates ApartmentRatings' privacy standards
    6. It contains promotional materials
    7. It is for the wrong community
    8. It contains irrelevant information that is not useful

About My Account

How to Create An Account
  1. Click on the Sign Up button on the top right corner of the ApartmentRatings site

  2. Choose to continue with Facebook, Google, or Apple if you would like to use the same email address to sign up, or you can manually type your email address and password. If you choose to manually add an email address, please note that you will need to verify the email address in order to write a review. You will also need to have your log in credentials should you want to update or remove your review(s) in the future.

  3. Check the "I agree to Apartmentratings' Terms of Use and Privacy Policy."

  4. Click on "Create Account" and you're all set!

By creating an account you can:
  • Customize your preferences
  • Save your favorite communities to your personal account
  • Post apartment reviews on ApartmentRatings.com
  • Modify or update reviews you've posted on ApartmentRatings.com
  • Participate in online conversations
  • Save your search filters
  • Receive email recommendations based on your saved search preferences

We also recommend that you take a few minutes to fill out your user profile on ApartmentRatings.com. With a completed profile, you are able to take advantage of all of the benefits that ApartmentRatings has to offer. Among other things, you can save your search filters to provide a customized apartment search experience and ensure you find the apartment home that best fits all of your needs. Additionally, you will be able to manage your preferences, favorite apartment communities, and even your reviews.

Logging In To An Existing Account
To log in to our site, click the Log In button on the top right corner of the ApartmentRatings site. Enter your email address and password that you set up with us. Choose to log in with Facebook, Google, or Apple if you would have used the same email address to log in, or you can manually type your email address and password.
Can't Log In or Post
We apologize for the problems you've experienced logging in and/or posting a review on our website.

Could you verify that your browser has cookies and Javascript enabled? Also, please ensure that your computer is not running privacy software that prevents cookies and Javascript or likewise, that your corporate network (if you are using one) does not have a firewall that disables these technologies.

If you have verified that cookies and Javascript are enabled, our best suggestion would be to try using a different web browser (you can download Firefox for free from http://www.mozilla.org) or try a different computer, preferably at a different location.
