Resident 2012

Some good, some bad

I am not a college student, but a professional. As in all places, there is good and bad. The difference is "what" can be done about it, and the "willingness" of the staff to make things right. Yes, the noise from college students partying, slamming doors, blasting music is annoying. Yes, you can even hear someone using the bathroom in the middle of the night. Yes, you can hear TV's, phone conversations, dishwashers and washer driers. But can that be fixed now? No. I choose to simply call the police each and every time these students don't understand the concept that their rights end where others begin. If I can hear it in my unit, you are violating my rights. The staff has the obligation and responsibility to notify these tenants that they are preventing the peaceful enjoyment of others. I do not know if they do or not. I have called for maintenance several times, and each and every time they have come out quickly and were extremely polite. I would have absolutely nothing negative to say about the maintenance people at all. They are friendly and courteous. If they don't know the answer, they have told me that they will find out, and have always gotten back to me. They have never put me off. The grounds are well kept and clean, except for many of the people with dogs that do not understand the concept of cleaning up after their own pets. It is impossible for another tenant to "advise mgmt" as we have no idea which unit these people live in.(this is what I have been told to do when making a complaint about it). It is therefore the responsibility of the mgmt to clean up after these dogs, which I have never seen done. Residents routinely let their dogs run off leash. I have been "greeted" by several dogs (not aggressively), that required me to go back into my apartment and change my clothes for work. These residents apologize, but continue to keep the dogs off leash. It would be impossible for staff not to see these dogs/residents as it is in full view and occurs frequently. The gate sometimes works, and sometimes doesn't. When it is brought to the attention of the office staff, residents are told to call maintenance. I have lived in several gated apartments over the years, and this is the only one that leaves the gate open for large periods of time per day. I have been told that the rationale is that "guests" have to wait too long to get in and it backs up. My response is that the guests are not paying the rent, the residents are, and we are paying for a gated community. That it "backs up" speaks volumes as well as to the amount of parties occuring in the complex, as I have never seen this in other complexes where the gates were closed 24/7. The floorplans of the apartments are nice, and the master bedroom size is larger than most complexes. It was the reason I rented here. The clubhouse is nice, but lets face it, who is going to really use that? It has waterfalls, so? it has a kitchen, so? It is nice for the office staff and looks nice when prospective renters come in, but once living here, lets face it, it is a useless amenity. The "cyber cafe" is touted as well. Again, a fairly useless amenity when 99% of people have their own computers and internet access. Parking on the weekends is horrible. There should be a "resident only section" in front of each building. Guests should not be afforded conveniences that deny residences reasonable accomodations. My major complaint with this complex is the office staff. They simply do not know how to speak to people. They are rude and condescending. They say they will do something, and simply do not. They tell you who to call instead of assisting. They will respond quickly to prospective renters, but once you are a renter, they speak to you in a condescending tone. If this staff were part of my department they would first be trained in how to relate to the public in a reasonable manner, and then if they still could not, they would be terminated. Since this appears to be an on-going comment in these reviews, upper mgmt should be more than aware at this time. In summation: It's a well laid out apartment with poor construction and amenities that while look nice when viewing communities, are useless to the majority of residents. The maintenance staff should be commended, and the office staff needs to understand that residents should not be treated as a nuisance when they are bringing up concerns. I won't be renewing my lease.
