Resident 2004

1/11/2005

Not what it used to be, but still pretty decent

Two or three years ago, this was the place to be; I dare say it was Atlanta's best kept apartment secret. It's been going downhill steadily, though. While the grounds are beautiful and the maintenance staff is fantastic, the residents that are moving in are certainly not the caliber that one would expect to find in Buckhead. Things like car break-ins, fights, and domestic disputes are becoming way too commonplace here.

One of the great things about Post Gardens used to be the wonderful office staff. Not only were the people great, they were consistent. This past year, though, the complex has had 4 management changes with no real consistency. The staff is still good at responding to small problems, but can't seem to resolve major ones like noisy neighbors and residents who let their dogs poop everywhere (even in the middle of sidewalks).

I used to really enjoy living here, but now I miss the days of annoying rich college kids driving their BMWs. They have been replaced with actual ------ residents who do things like talk loudly in the hallway, fight in the parking garage, and yell loudly at their girlfriends. It's a real shame because there are still some really great people who live here, but they are gradually moving out.

If you move to Post Gardens, you might get lucky and get a really nice apartment with good neighbors and a nice feel. The flip side of that coin, though, is you may get into one of the problem buildings where you will have disrespectful neighbors and dog poo in your hallway.

So here's the lowdown:

The good: Beautiful grounds, great location, awesome maintenance, free covered parking, access to the lovely Lenox Park, walk to MARTA, 24-hour workout center, nice apartment interiors, the gates generally work, office staff good at fixing most small problems, two courtesy officers that live on the property, good insulation on the construction (for cool and heat, NOT noise), not many children, very dog friendly.

The bad: Car break-ins, loud neighbors, dog poop, lost packages, expensive rent, Roxboro Road's incessant construction, city of Atlanta water & sewage rates, natural gas water, cooking, and heat (expensive!), crazy drivers in the parking deck, very dog friendly.

The ugly: domestic disputes and a rising criminal element.

All in all, Post Gardens is still a pretty good place to live. The biggest problem is it's starting to look more like the Buckhead where people get shot outside of clubs instead of the Buckhead with outstanding restaurants and multi-million dollar homes. Even though the office staff is having problems with certain issues, in all fairness, it really is due to the residents themselves and there's not much the staff can really do. They are quite good compared to most other apartment staffs out there.

Quick tip: referral rates here are pretty good. Before you move in, try hanging out outside the complex and just ask people walking their dogs if they would be interested in acting as a referral and splitting the check with you!
