Cons beginning to outweight the pros

I have only lived here for a few winter months so I'm afraid that I cannot comment on the bug problem that others mention; I am a little nervous to see what happens in warmer months though! I must say that they are fairly competitively priced; they are no bargain but are more affordable than most Amli properties with the townhome feel. My problems begin with the amenities. There is only one garbage area; very inconvenient and the compactor is very unreliable. The gym is very sparce and if there is more than one person in there, it is very crowded. There is only one elliptical machine there so I don't even bother. They NEVER salt the grounds and the winter driving conditions are very dangerous. I even saw one gentleman be carted away in an ambulance as he fell and cracked his head open and still nothing was done. As for the apartment, it is very spacious. Walk-in closet, large master bathroom with a soaking tub, large kitchen, and high vaulted ceilings. However, when you move in, the carpets are only shampooed; they are very weared down and it is impossible to keep it looking clean. I have informed management of one minor problem, (the faucets in the master bath are backwards; hot is cold and cold is hot), and one major problem with the heater, (there are days in the cold winter where the maximum temperature reaches 68 which is very cold in my opinion), and they only care if it goes below 65 as that could present a pipe problem. Both issues haven't been fixed; they tried at first but appear to have washed their hands of me. They even tried to claim that my heat isn't functioning properly because I wash dishes too much; how that is relevant, I have no idea. Our neighbors directly above us are really great people; I like the very much, however, their kids wake very early on the weekends and appear to enjoy bouncing around. That gets a little annoying at times; we hear that loud as can be. What a building can do to minimize that is a mystery to me however. Lastly, they claim to be very pet friendly but I think they use that term loosely. FOR EACH PET, you must pay a non-refundable administrative fee of $100 and a deposit of $300. I had hoped to adopt an adorable puppy, and did not anticipate the a problem as I lived in a "dog building" and paid a fee already for my cat. I understand an administrative fee but a whole other deposit seems a little excessive. I don't feel that I have much freedome here. You cannot use curtains or paint the walls; it feels a little institutional at times. I do think that management ATTEMPTS to be helpful and the recently hired new manager seems a bit more together, I'd prefer living somewhere that was little more "human-friendly."
