Office Manager is rude! (Ann Bicknese)
I would like to give more stars to the property in itself. However, I cannot! The office manager Ann Bicknese is a huge liability for this company. I lived with this company (multiple properties) for over 10 years. I have had the pleasure of experiencing 2 other office managers that were a delight. Ann is not a delight by far. She is loud, rude, a liar, disrespectful, and I wouldn’t say it if my experiences with her did not match up to a Bigot. I paid in the nonrefundable deposit and because she was in a rush to leave. Unbeknownst to me, Ann illegally handed me keys to my apartment. I did what all new tenants should do, I sent an email requesting maintenance. Anne was off that day, someone else (Jack P.) Responded to my email and said he could not find me in their system. When Anne returned, she emailed and called me while I was at work cursing me out, “pay your rent and move the ------- motorcycleâ€ were her exact words! Ann then continued to use intimidation efforts by refusing to send my lease because she was afraid she would be terminated for abusing the authority entrusted to her by Signature Management. I have a disability and a service animal. An illegally charged me $200 Nonrefundable pet fee and a monthly pet fee. I have requested For those charges to be removed from my Portal. I also explained (anyone can verify) to Ann, that my service animal is not required to follow leash laws if it hinders his work. She even went as far as to email me a picture of random poop, telling me it was my service animal’s. Ann Has no limitations to her disrespect of residents. Ann continues to take pictures of my service animal when he is not on a leash, as a way to threaten me. Ann unplugs the cameras in the office so she can treat tenets however she wants without any accountability for her disgusting behavior behaviors. Ann refuses to give me her supervisor’s contact information. As long as she is the office manager, I will not or suggest living with Signature Management. This is not close to everything Ann has done. I am waiting to hear from her supervisor.

They do not answer the phone or emails, and when you finally get in contact you will pay the application fee, be told you have a unit secured for 4 months out, and then the same month as your date, 2 weeks from your move-in when you try reaching out to them for WEEKS so you can pay the deposit, with no replies or answered calls, they will finally reply and very rudely tell you your unit has been rented to someone else because, apparently, "Your old manager quit. I am the new manager and I didn't know it was reserved. It is not available anymore." Leaving you commpletely without anywhere to go.

I reside in the apartments off of Duncan Road (nearly identical layout to the Newcastle apartments). My rent remained the same for my first 3 years here. New management came along and increased rent $50 for 2015-16 (the only notice I received was when I went to sign my lease renewal...how convenient). Advertisements in the office touted no market rate increases on the apartment's rent, yet when I pointed that out, I was given a nonsensical excuse as to why that didn't apply to my particular unit. In addition, the Internet services (which are currently "free" yet can be interrupted/disconnected at any time for messages to residents...a pain for those who may work at home) will be upgraded and will cost an additional $20 per month to use. Now that's a total $70 increase with no advance notice or option to bail out while maintaining current services. New management also has the tendency to approach maintenance requests rudely. For example, last fall, my wall AC/heating unit began to make loud noises, uncharacteristic for the unit since I had moved in. The staff-person tried to convince me that it was my fault. When I stood my ground and ensured that maintenance would come out, he actually had to replace the entire unit. He stated that another resident had a similar issue and that it sounded worse than mine (hmm, I wonder why... maybe it was their "fault" too?). Occurrences such as these have helped me solidify my decision to move next year. It's unfortunate, because the apartments were a great deal, but I cannot continue to deal with bad business and hand my money over like it's ok.
