You Will Die Or Loose Your sons If You Live On The Property
I have been a resident on WHP property for 15 years, during the first 5 it wasn't so bad, however the neighbors were unruly, and also families that live there has been living there since the Henry Hornet Projects, so projects are no longer but the same kill or be killed structure is very much present. within the last 2 yrs I almost lost my son, a walk to the gas station resulted in my son being shot 5 times all because "they" thought he was an Opp! fast forward 8 months later my apartment was shot up not intentionally, but they were trying to shoot in my downstairs neighbors home. Staff do not care , they will not intervene! They show no concern nor care all they care about is rent money. I am currently looking to own a home I can no longer live on this property I will bury me or someone I love living there. yes it is close to downtown and the United center and a train stop as well as hospitals, but to live in a neighborhood that will for sure cause you pain and grief is crazy work! The people that live on the property and are stuck, because they do not have a way out absolutely hate it there I mean gun shots ring out at any time of the day, you have the gang bangers and thugs taking over the blocks it's extremely depressing living on WHP apartments!that take over the neighborhood, blocks, streets and the police nor management does nothing about it. You can't have nice property because it will get vandalized; car, home etc... I cannot wait till God removes me and my family from this horrendous place, I will run when that time comes and not walk. Do not live on the 1700 1600 1500 block of lake 1800,1900,2000 block of maypole, lake, and 1800, 1900, 2000 block of Washington even the hermitage apartments on lake street close to Ashland are a nightmare as well. The government has strategically this and it is all by design! Everyday I cry because I don't want to live there and I'm so afraid that I will lose someone that I love dearly. The management do not manage anything but their pockets.

When I was there it was ok, no major complaints with my condo other than my neighbors would play there music all day long. I lived on the Bell & Lake side it was a little more comfortable over there than the other side where the problems and complaints were. My rent was affordable and I liked my condo.

When i first moved in I LOVED THIS PLACE TOTALLY. One month after moving in my car was broken into from the back of the house where parking is available. There is cameras but they don't work, when i reported it to the building owner Tracy - she said it was nothing they could do. When it was broken into the second time i was feeling a little different about this place. My truck was parked in the front of my house someone tried taking parts off of it bumper which alone cost me 675 to replace. Next my washer starts to leak, the bath room toilet don't flush, the upstairs bath room want refile the water to flush and the dryer is knocking. I called for maintenance in November - a guy came out he worked moving so fast he left the bath room pieces on my floor gross. He was nice but he didn't fix the problem call them back out to tell them the first thing the manager of maintenance said we would have to pay for clogging the toilet (it wasn't a clogging problem I can't understand why he is mad when I pay all this freakin rent) I never wanted them in my unit when I wasn't there because beside the things they didn't throw away you would never guess that they came out. No receipts or nothing. I called for a washer and dryer they finally replaced after 2 months. I keep calling and email Tina in maintenance about my washer- she is extremely rude and nasty ... they brought me a used washer and dryer Right now today I have bugs roaches and mice ...... I've emailed and ask for someone to come out no response. I have emailed and asked for management no response. I request to move heard from Arlean who claims she reinstate or she is the one that create leases. She said she didn't understand my request. ? ? ?

When I first moved in I should have known things would get worse. My unit had bugs and was not clean. A formal walk through was not done as it was a rush move. The maintenance office gives you a hard time about fixing repairs, got upset with me because I would not let anyone in my place if I was not there. My pay schedule at the time of move fluctuated because I was doing temp work. I explained my rent would be late sometimes as a result of it. I was told no problem as long as late fee is included. As time went on and many complaints later, things got worse. A friend came to visit me and told how before she rang my doorbell a man(my immediate neighbor) jumped out of a car with a gun. I called the police and property management. Neither came to see things out. I complained about many things from loose garbage being thrown in front of the cans instead of inside. My neighbor leaves her garbage outside her door until she feels like taking it to the can. I have had my ceiling fall in and flooding. I called maintenance one Friday evening for flooding and to date no one came. In fact after my last complaint I was told they would not take my rent late anymore..which eventually led to my eviction. They were not willing to work me anymore because of my complaints. I have since moved out with a paid in full balance. I moved out the end of Nov 2015. I however did not return my keys until the second week in Dec. Now they are telling me they will charge me for additional days even though I have my movers receipt showing my move out date was prior to Dec 1. I would not recommend this neighborhood to anyone because of the property management. My list of complaints is long and warranted but they did nothing until they wanted to if at all. I am retaining a lawyer and suing for all my pain and suffering behind West Haven's neglect to serve the community with integrity.

I currently live here when I 1st move here I loved it but, I slowly began to dislike it once I saw what was going on: the neighbors are disrespectful they do not respect ones property they hang out throw loud parties disrupting my home and my kids sleep my kids go to bed at a set time and when my neighbors decide to throw a party my kids an I can't go to bed till 2 or 3 a.m and that's totally unacceptable then the staff is cool with some of the tenants so when u complain about someone nothing really gets done there are no parks or recreation center for the kids they ride there bikes all up and own the alley vandalizing once car by running there bikes into it and when u let the parent of the child know they get a o.k and type of attitude they just totally have zero respect for ppl and there property I do not feel safe here I absolutely can not wait to move and I wouldn't recommend this property site to anyone.

Everything was going fine, living here, until I complained about maintenance issues. I've been complaining for months now and no issue is resolved & will not renew my lease! Westhaven needs to upgrade their maintenance workers, asap!

Management is very unprofessional. They consistently have a nasty disposition and no one addresses the concerns by tenants regarding management. The young lady with the braids obviously takes great pride in damaging management/tenant relations. If you enjoy ethnic, unprofessional, immature, behavior Westhaven Apartments is certainly worth viewing.

Better than expected...
I live here right now, moved in in mar 2012. At the beginning I had concern because I did my research on the area, I come from poor upbringing and all that comes with that and to be honest I expected much worst. I pay market rent for my condo and it is nice, way better apartment that one I could get for the same price in other areas. Yes their is section 8 people living here, yes they are forme HH project resident here but you can't generalize them. Many of them are hardworking people that care about their community some of them dont but that's everywhere. I have a wife and a daughter and although the community is predominantly African American and we are not I haven't felt bothered one single time and to the contrary a lot of people salute me when I go outside with my daughter and wife. No criminal activity that I can talk about, gangs hanging around or drug activity. Mainly kids are outside but since they have a curfew they are in early and the police patrol the area very frequently specially on game days which is almost every other day. The real downside is that there is nothing sighing walking distance as far as entertainment goes than the United Center, no bars, no restaurants or other things that the city does offer in many other areas. I believe that with some of that the area will be perfect. Almost every other city that has a place like the United Center it is surrounded by bars, restaurants and places to hang out, but not here, maybe it will come with time...hopefully.

West Haven Park Will Fool You!
This place is a newly constructed modern day PROJECT-literally! Don't be fooled! It will not be disclosed at the time of rental that there are more Section 8 families living in this development, than working class, regular rent (market rate) paying tenants. While Section 8 is a viable option for those who need it, everyone that has it doesn't always deserve it. There are numerous families who previously lived in the Henry Horner Homes (CHA project development) now residing here. When I viewed the building that I live in before I actually moved it was immaculate, spotless stair ways & common grounds. My first horror was the day that I was actually moving in. I came to bring some things to my new apartment this evening, only to be welcomed by a hallway full of thugs that were having an altercation coming from a very loud party directly in the unit beneath me. They were yelling at one another hanging on the banisters smoking in the hallway, etc. As time progressed I began to notice the children that ran through the building and loitered in the hallways constantly! During the short time that I've been here they have written on the walls on every level of this four level building. They leave candy paper, sunflower seeds, chicken bones on the floors of the hall and outside the buildings. This building that I stay in has a stale musty scent from marijuana and cigarette smoke as soon as you walk in from the outside. Particular units have constant traffic, and about a million adults and children living there. There is constant loitering day and night, in front of the buildings with lawn chairs, card tables, etc. especially during the summer. I've had to call the police on several occasions. Since I've been here I've had Drug Detectives knock at my door on two separate occasions looking for someone who lived in the building. I have witnessed numerous police vehicles visiting constantly throughout the development for various disturbances. This place is not worth the amount of money that they will charge you! There is much too much rift raft floating around. Management changes constantly! There has been no resolutions, it is only getting worse! As soon as my lease is up, I'm moving!

These people are moving their family and friends in and people on the waiting list are still waiting I told my friend about the apt she did not have section 8 or worked and had just filed chapter 7. now I was on the low income waiting list for 5 years . and I just told her about it. I always paid my rent on the fist of the month for the past 20 years never ever was late and again I was denied an apt because I had a family size of 6 and they two friends I meantion above had a family size of 3 But still they had rental problems bad credit never was on any waiting list makes one think
