Overall a very nice place to live. I have recommended it to multiple people. My unit is getting more expensive every year to the point that it is not really as worth it as it was compared to other apartments I've seen. Overall nice but overpriced

As a pet owner who moved to Maine this past May with two large dogs, I could not say enough wonderful things about Tamarlane Apartments. The staff was extremely friendly, professional, and efficient in matching us with the perfect apartment. Our apartment was very clean when we moved in and the whole apartment complex is always clean and smells great! Tamarlane does allow dogs (small and large) which is an incredible find for the Portland area. It was so hard for me to find an apartment to take two large dogs therefore I am SO grateful for Tamarlane. It is a great pet-friendly community with a dog park, dog waste bins throughout the complex, and most people do have pets here so everyone is generally very pet friendly. Yes sometimes a dog may be barking in an apartment, but hey it happens to all pet owners sometimes, so everyone is very understanding. We are also next to some hiking trails which is great for dogs if you want to take a quick little getaway hike in the woods! As far as maintenance goes, I have had to call them two times for little things, and they have been very quick and happy to respond. The grounds are very well maintained, such as I saw them redo their entire flower beds near the offices with beautiful flowers this summer. They also have their landscaping company come out often to help with clearing leaves in the fall and mowing in the summer. They also repaved our entire parking lot this summer!! I am sure Tamarlane will be excellent with snow removal in the winter months. Finally, the location is great!! We are a six minute drive to downtown Portland so we are close to the restaurants, night life, etc. However we are also a few minutes from the grocery store, a gas station, etc which is so important because we don't have to deal with downtown traffic. I can easily walk to Payson Park, go for a run around Back Bay, hike a little on the Sebago to Sea trail, etc. I give this apartment complex 5 stars for everything and really do love living here. I feel very lucky to have found this gem for me and my dogs!

Professional and courteous office and maintenance staff. Our townhouse is spacious for 2 people and the property and grounds are well maintained. I do wish that tenants with dogs would be more considerate about cleaning up after them. We feel that the rent is reasonable for the size and location. We haven't used the pool or laundry room as we have our own washer and dryer. We have been here for 6 months. I hope that the rent doesn't increase significantly come June when we are due to renew as we hope to remain long-term. It's a great place to live and we haven't had any significant problems that couldn't be resolved by a chat with a neighbor or a call to maintenance. We would absolutely recommend Tamarlane.

Best town homes in the Portland area. We just sold our house and had been looking forEVER a rental in Portland. The second we came to tour we felt at home. The leasing consultant was very knowledgeable and answered every question we had. We ultimately decided to rent here because they are the full package. Beautiful property, lots of amenities, helpful staff, and 24-hour maintenance. Looking forward to the few couple years here at Tamarlane as we plan on staying for awhile!

I have had nothing but positive results from the management, including all staff and maintenance employees, from the time of my first visit, to out of state communications, and then the last 60 days of residency. In fact everything has exceeded my expectations. I was living in CA and moved here to be closer to family, so I was able to visit several apt complexes in the Portland Area when I visited. First impressions were exciting due to the beauty and cleanliness of the grounds, followed by a very comfortable tour by the leasing consultant. We communicated via phone and email, as she made herself readily available and proved knowledgeable. Subsequently, I choose Tamarlane to make my new home. I was pleasantly surprised that my apartment looked like no one had ever lived there. One of the most impressing aspects were the maintenance team. Not only were they efficient, but they went beyond what I thought was part of their job duties. Everyone treated me like a family member with their kindness and concern. This has continued with my contacts with them. The grounds are constantly being manicured and very dog friendly. All of these elements have made me feel welcomed and at home. This was especially important as I had recently gone through some major life changes that were difficult and challenging. As you have determined I would definitely recommend Tamarlane 110% and hope that my sincerity is apparent. Good luck in your attempt to find your new home!

We moved there a few years ago when it was labeled as "Luxury Apartments." We had a good few months and then slowly the nice neighborhood was over run with people that did not take pride in being a good and courteous neighbor. We found out that half of the apartments were now subsidized. I was disgusted that we were never notified. We were paying $1,400.00 for a luxury apartment and the neighbors next door were paying $500! The pool area was what sold us to move there in the beginning. It then began to be over populated with children that didn't live there and parents that didn't care that their kids were running, jumping and splashing even though there was a sign forbidding those things in the pool area. When addressed with the office staff I was told to deal with it myself. I did not appreciate that. The rent was spiked each time we were set to re-sign our lease. Not sure why, no improvements were made in that time. We decided to break our lease and move because we couldn't take it anymore. We left right before new management took over and now live in a beautiful house paying less on our mortgage than we did in rent! I would never recommend this complex to anyone and have dissuaded several people from renting there from my testimony as a tenant.

Make sure you read the lease at least twice. You think you are getting a good price for the apartment but there are so many hidden charges. Before renting the apartment, I went to look at one. However, this was not the apartment I ended up leasing. The day I moved in, the apartment was dirty and smelled disgusting. The bathroom was fility and there was dog hair all over the carpet. I called the leasing office and they told me the carpet was shampooed, I requested to see paperwork saying it was in fact shampooed. The office failed to provide me with proof; as a result, I demanded for the carpet to be shampooed in my presences. Like someone else wrote, the walls are very thin; you will have a difficult time sleeping due to the thin walls. You can hear everything coming from your neighbors apartment. Also, the staff is very unprofessional and think they can outsmart tenants. Had I known how terrible staff and living at Tamarlane would be, I would have never rented an apartment. Beware of what you are getting into.

Everything was great until Corridor Property Management bought this location in December 2015. They change quite a bit of staff and they do not care about the tenants. I think they are trying to get people to leave so they charge higher rents or sell as condos. The rudest office staff and maintenance. We are moving ASAP.

Just moved back to Portland after being out of state for 15 years. I remember Tamerlane from the 90s and it was not a very nice place, wow what a difference now! Have been here for 1 week and can say the leasing staff are very nice, helpful and professional. My apartment is very clean - carpets, walls, doors, cabinets, etc. all move in clean, required little to no additional work on my part. The building outside and campus are also very clean and well maintained. This place is dead quite, I am still quite surprised considering the # of units, but it's been great so far. A good friend lives in Foxcroft in Scarborough and we both agree Tamerlane is a nicer place overall. Highly recommended.

A bit of advice: if you're looking for a reasonably-priced, safe, comfortable place to live...this isn't it. We lived there for a year and were horribly price-gouged. They will squeeze every penny they can from you and then some. The walls are paper thin with poor insulation, so if your neighbor has a baby and a dog, like ours did, forget sleep. It was something you did before you moved in. The place was cheaply done, outdated, and falling apart. During the winter the roof leaked all over our stuff in the guest bedroom and closet. We called maintenance, and when they came to inspect the damage, the only thing we were offered was a fan to help dry the water damage. In the spring, they sent in a painting crew to paint over the water staining on the ceiling from the leak. The painters didn't use a drop cloth and got paint all over our bed, furniture, TV, artwork, clothes, etc. They even got paint on an oil painting a dear friend of mine did before she died of cancer. I've never been so furious. My husband and I both had horrible breathing problems while living here, and I suspect there is black mold in the ceilings of the upstairs. The leak during the winter didn't surprise the maintenance staff, and the paint cover-up...obviously not the first time it had been done. We haven't had problems with our breathing since we moved out, but while there we were sick and stuffy constantly. Once during the winter, we were locked out during the hours that the office is supposed to be open, so we walked on down to see if somebody could let us in. There was nobody in the office and it was locked, so we called the call service. The lady on the phone rudely told us to get a locksmith and hung up on us. Did I mention this was during the winter, and we were in the middle of a snowstorm? We froze outside our place for an hour waiting for a locksmith, which we then had to pay $85 for. To be fair, Tamarlane did refund our $85 by deducting it from our rent. In installments. Over 2 months. We had to pay the locksmith $85 in cash, so having to wait two months to get our money refunded...not great. If you think you're getting 24-hour maintenance here...you're not. You're not even getting access to maintenance during business hours. This is the only place I've ever lived where people are in your apartment at least once a month. They sent in painters, people to check the fire extinguishers, inspectors of various things...there was a period of two months where they sent somebody in to check out our place 5 times! There is absolutely no privacy here. After a year we were presented with lease renewal papers stating that we could now go month-to-month...for an additional $700 a month!! After being loyal tenants for a year, they were only jacking our rent by $100 a month if we signed another full year lease. We told the rental office "no thanks", and they offered to "work on the price." So you weren't already giving us the best price?! Seems like a total scam. Our base rent while we lived there was $1,450, but when you tacked on all of their additional fees (they charge you for literally everything) we were a little over $1,800. To live in a dumpy apartment. Absolute insanity. We found a brand new apartment with everything included, right downtown, with parking, and are saving $500 a month. Great insulation here too, so we can finally sleep again! Seriously, don't live at Tamarlane. There are far better places where the management won't try to squeeze every last penny from you. There are places where you can have privacy and the kitchens aren't falling apart. The pool and gym are not worth it. The best part about Portland is that there are so many options for places to live. Don't make the mistake that we did by signing a lease at Tamarlane.

My family and I moved here from Brooklyn, NY and have been living here for a couple of weeks now. Coming from NYC, we had completely different expectations than many people. Our tolerance for high rents, noise, pollution, poor maintenance, rudeness and poor safety is pretty high - probably as high as it can possibly be! However, even taking that into consideration, Tamarlane is really fantastic and we couldn't be happier overall. The move-in experience was great. The staff at Tamarlane is very friendly, professional, and courteous and made the process of finding and securing an apartment absolutely painless and easy. They communicated clearly what they needed from us and were up-front about all costs and policies. I had reservations about living in a complex based on things that I had learned about apartment complexes in the military. However, so far, living here has been great. The apartment we rented is a two bedroom single level unit. When we arrived, it was cleaned, freshly painted, repaired, and prepped for our arrival. There was even a nice welcome "note 'n' tote" waiting for us, along with the keys. The apartment and the whole complex is very quiet, especially by Brooklyn standards! All we can hear are the sounds of nature. There's the occasional noise issue - a plane or helicopter passing overhead, a siren moving down Canco, or a party at a nearby house (not in the complex) - but honestly, these are super rare and we're so tucked away that we're pretty well insulated from them. To put things into perspective, it beats sirens, loud music, trains rumbling by, engines, and gunshots - all complementary with a typical Brooklyn apartment - at all hours of the day and night by a long shot! We also never hear a peep from any of our neighbors. I'm not sure whether the units are sound-proofed or they use spray-on insulation or what, but inside the apartment is absolutely silent. The grounds are well-kept. A few times, I've seen dog feces (both bagged and in the open) around the grounds and once, I saw some litter (which I threw away) but again, just for some perspective, it's immaculate by Brooklyn standards. The management team also does a great job keeping the grounds. I've seen a landscaping crew twice already (I'm thinking they come by weekly) and the on-call maintenance man is a great guy and very helpful. I haven't needed to ask for anything to be repaired because everything works great in our apartment. Again (hate to harp, but it's important), by NYC standards, I'm just happy I don't have to fix anything myself! The location is perfect. The neighborhood of Back Cove is a really nice one. We're minutes (driving) from shopping, school, trails, and entertainment. It's very convenient. There are two or three different "strips" of shops, restaurants, etc., depending on which direction we go. Not a matter of just walking around the corner to the nearest bodega or deli, but still pretty good. We don't miss the 45-80 minute commutes or train hassles in the least! There are two churches nearby and a couple of office buildings but other than that, the area is mostly residential and there's not a ton of traffic. Traffic here is pretty much non-existent and even in the "rush hour" periods, the traffic still moves along at a pretty good pace. We're not right next to the interstate (a big plus) but it's close enough that we can get onto it in about two minutes. So, as far as work/school commuting and shopping/entertainment, Tamarlane is situated in an ideal spot in relation to the various routes you could take. Access to the complex is by a single entry/exit point, which is a mixed blessing in terms of safety/emergencies. The whole complex is well-lit and everyone - management and tenants - works at creating and maintaining a sense of community that strikes me as a mix between the sense of "our block" back in Brooklyn and a gated community feel. I haven't noticed any private security or police patrols but I haven't been here that long. I did notice a police unit parked in one of the church lots near the complex a couple of times, though. However, the police here look very-well funded and I imagine response times are much lower than New York and to be honest, I haven't seen any sign or indication of any kind of rowdy roughnecks I'm used to anywhere around here so my family and I feel very safe. Everyone here is nice, polite, and friendly and mostly keep to themselves. The rents seem pretty reasonable to us but, yet again, we're used to very high rents in relation to the rest of the country. All the utilities are separate, which was new to us, but reasonably priced. The guy that you need to talk to for cable and internet service is great. We also pay our rent online, which is a nice convenience. There are extra fees for this and that, like a pet fee, for example, but everything together still amounts to less than we would pay for a comparable place in New York, so we're happy with the pricing. I wouldn't say that the apartments are necessarily "luxury" by NY standards but compared to some others I've viewed in this area, they are very, very nice. A couple of times, I was shown some apartments in the area for similar rent that looked like they should have been condemned. So yeah, the units here are quite nice and we're happy with the overall value that we're getting dollar for dollar. One thing that threw us for a loop was the set of policies around what you can and cannot do in your apartment. In New York, most of the time, you can basically do whatever you want as long as you put everything back the way it was when you leave or pay someone else to do so but apparently here, there are a lot of rules about what you're allowed to do as far as hanging pictures, curtains, gardening, and so on. So, be sure to ask about those rules before you sign, especially if you're not from here or are new to these kinds of complexes. The staff are very up front about them, so it's not a problem, just something to be aware of. Tamarlane is absolutely a quiet, clean, and safe place to live. It's managed by professional, friendly people and the people who live here are courteous, too. The sense of community they foster is an added bonus and the location within Portland and in relation to everything in the area is perfect.

I have lived at Tamarlane for almost 4 years and I absolutely love it! As a single working mom and former home owner I feel safe, secure and very well respected thanks to the professional management team here. The minute I walked through the door of my apartment it felt like home and has continued to provide my son and I a convenient place to call our own. Having 2 stories, our own separate entrance, back patio, and a nice kitchen really make it feel more like a house than an apartment. The pool is a wonderful place to be in the summer as well as the basketball and tennis courts and the gym is perfect for winter workouts. The laundry room is clean and reasonably priced, cheaper than laundry mat prices or you can put a washer dryer in your apartment. The units are inexpensive to heat and are comfortable during summer months. We don't have a dog but it's fun meeting the dogs and their owners when they're out and about on the property. Snow plowing is done quickly after snowstorms and I've never had a problem getting to work on time after a snowstorm. The grounds are beautiful and the location is close to grocery stores, convenience stores and schools. Payson Park and Baxter Blvd are my favorite walking places and I can walk to both very safely and quickly. The office staff are wonderfully supportive and the maintenance staff are always, always there when I need them however I rarely do because nothing breaks down in my apartment. I highly recommend Tamarlane as a wonderful place to live in Portland.

Just moved in. Tamarlane is great! Can't wait to use the pool this summer. Abby I think is the girl in the office and she is wicked friendly. Really liked that they had the maintenance guy come over and see if there was anything wrong when I moved in. So far its a great place to live!

I was apprehensive at first just because of other experiences I've heard about at apartment complexes, but I have to say that this is a really great little place to live. The apartments are not huge nor do they have tons and tons of natural light, BUT they have everything you need, they are clean and sounds are not an issue. It is a very quiet complex, very community oriented. The office staff is on top of everything, the pool is well kept, and maintenance will come right away if you need anything. It's not super cheap - but nothing really is in Portland - but it's a really sweet little place to move into whether it's a transitionary time or you want something small and quiet. I was looking for something online that would tell me exactly this when I was searching for rentals in Portland, so I hope someone can use this advice. Tamarlane is lovely.

Loved it!!
I love living at Tamarlane. I have lived here for about 9 months and find it close to everything. The office staff has been so nice and helpful! Even after I moved in! They have the best resident parties. I usually do not attend these however, it has been very enjoyable this time around. I would recommend!

Management is scamming this rating site.
It is pretty obvious that someone who works for Resource Residential is scamming this site by posting bogus reviews. "Trackstar," for example, also claims to live at Foxcroft and gave it the same glowing review. Aside from the lack of ethics, this shows that the company will do or say anything to get warm bodies into its apartments. That said, my personal experience is that the local staff seems friendly and competent, though it is now a real trust issue given the bogus reviews. Who knows what or whom to believe? I am less uncertain about the property manager, ------------. In all the time I have lived here, her communications with customers has been rude, condescending, and abrupt. Someone once said she treats tenants like children -- that is being kind! Her frequent letters and policy changes never once try to explain why such changes or rules are being implemented or how they are for the good of her customers. Usually, the notes are almost incomprehensible and wrong. Her snow storm policy, for example, actually asked tenants to block roadways for emergency vehicles. Some managers should be forbidden to have contact with customers. ------ is one of those managers. She has lots of impressive letters that she puts after her name, but I am guessing that not one of them is for customer service.

what\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'s all the fuss?
I don\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'t know who these people are who are all upset about the office lady. I hope they don\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'t mean Colleen. She was super friendly, warm and bright and perky and energetic and she\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'s also cute as all heck. She gave me a look around the property and it was a little too much for me as a single person to rent (the townhomes look worth it but out of my price range... damn....). I liked the look of the place. I don\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'t know what people are so mad about. I met the guy who fixes things too and he was really friendly and hard to miss - his truck is like, bright freaking orange. Awesome.

Quiet, comfy place to live
Tamarlane Apartments are a great place to live if you want to live in Portland, but not in the heart of the city. It's very close to 295 and 95, but without all the noise and traffic. It has many different options to choose from when it comes to floor plans. I love the amenities that come with it: in-ground salt water pool, tennis courts, basketball courts, dog park, and fitness center. I love that I don't have to have a gym membership anymore! The maintenance staff are always very friendly and efficient. The office staff are great; you can just go down to the office to chit-chat because they can talk all day! I would definitely recommend this place!

I am satisfied with living here at Tamarlane
I have lived here at Tamarlane for roughly a year and a half. I am happy with the services that Tamarlane provides. I am a disabled individual and Tamarlane is one of the few apartments in Portland that offer a one level living space. I have had some issues with my patio and my plumbing but as soon as I told ---- she put in the work order. I know that when she calls in the work order it is not up to her when (---)the maintenance man gets there and the work gets done. Tamarlane is a great place to live. They have a pool,a gym and a place to play basketball and tennis. They also have a place for you to walk your dog and they can play. They came and redid my patio. I have balance issues and I was having trouble walking on my patio so I brought it to ----'s attention and within a week it was fixed. I am very happy living at Tamarlane whenever I need help concerning my apartment they are there!

A Big Mistake
My roommate and I lived at Tamarlane for two years, if we had really thought it through, however, we never would have renewed our lease for the second year. It amazes me that Tamarlane can call itself "luxury" apartments. Whose standards are they basing that title on? After two years of living there, I can assure you, they are NOT luxury apartments, and the staff are NOT indiviuals who would be employed anywhere that actually had a luxurious appeal. Price wise, we got a better deal than most. We only paid $995, which is well below the disgusting price they are charging now for rent. Even at $200 below their asking price, it is still not a good deal, or value. The price doesn't include utilities at all, not even at the basic level. You are charged extra for cold water, sewer, trash, hot water, electricity, heat, everything. So, that means, if you're paying the $1200 they're currently asking for right now, you also need to add a $50 "conservice" bill (cold water, trash, sewer), $100 electric bill, $60 gas bill (or higher, depending on the winter), plus cable. That means you're actually paying in the upwards of $1500 a month when all is said and done. If you have pets, that's another monthly charge, the laundry facilities aren't free either. You can certainly find apartments in the Greater Portland area that are a much better value and much bigger for a lesser price. I guarantee it. We should have moved after that first year, we knew it wasn't a good value, unfortunately moving is a gigantic hassle, and we didn't want to deal with it, which we paid dearly for in the end. The thing about Tamarlane, is that it isn't just about the astronomically high rent, the terrible value you get, it's also about the poor quality of staff there, the poor quality of maintenence there, and not being able to trust that what they are telling you is the truth, and that they'll do what they say they will. For example, when we first were showed the place, and when we signed our first lease there, our balcony was unfinished. The top to the railings wasn't there, and it hadn't been weather proofed or painted. We were assured that it would all happen before the winter. In reality, it took more than A YEAR for that to happen. Actually, it was never even finished. They never weather proofed the wood, it was never sealed, so it grew mold from rain and snow, and became so slippery when wet, that it was dangerous to even step on. I fell so hard once, I was almost knocked unconscious. The railings were painted with the same paint they used for the walls, which clearly, is meant for indoor use, so it also has grown mold and algae(I kid you not). It was never fixed, though, never righted, and I'm betting that whomever is moving into our old apartment will find an unfinished balcony that grows mold. The closets were always coming off the runners, because they are cheaply made, and poorly fixed (multiple times) by maintanence, the same with the screens to the windows and balcony door. Actually, we had one screen that was SCREWED into the wall by maintanence to prevent it from falling out again, God forbid they replace the bent screen with a new one, it might cost money. There was a time when we had no outside lights, it took more than 3 phone calls to have that fixed. They acted like it wasn't a big deal, but not having lighting in a large parking lot, your hallways, or walk ways, is a big deal, and a safety issue. The staff there never went out of their way to be helpful, to really fix anything, and were frequently condescending. Although, I'm being a bit unfair, we only really dealt with one staff member, ----, and I cannot remember a time when she didn't seem annoyed or put off that we were asking something of her. Frequently, when we would go down to talk to her about something, resign our lease, or sign our move out papers, she was leaving to go on a smoke break, at 9:30 in the morning. We actually saw her roll her eyes, and put her hands up in an exasperated manner as she turned around. Clearly, annoyed that she had to come do her job instead of walking around smoking her cigarette. There were multiple occasions when I was interuppted talking to her in the office, by her --------, who was running in and out from the pool to ask her questions. It's interesting that Tamarlane can't manage to pay for cold water or sewer with our rent money, but the employees there can bring there kids to work everyday to swim in the pool that we pay for. ---- was barely adequately helpful, she was condescending, and seemed irritated to be called, emailed, or simply talked to about anything. There was a time when the door lock was jammed and when alerted she said, "Well, are you sure you have the right key, dear?" In that tone that lets you know she thinks you're an idiot. She was more than put out at having to come down, and felt foolish when she couldn't get it to open either. Moving out was also a learning experience about contracts. Tamarlane is sneaky, and over priced in all aspects. They hand you, actually, they leave it on your door, a 3 page list of things you'll be charged for when you leave if not taken care of to their satisfaction. Shampooing the rugs, $125; re-painting, another $100 or so, maybe more. What's interesting about that, is they don't tell you there'll be a charge for repainting when you ask if you can paint. Thankfully, we never painted, but I feel badly for those who have. There are charges for the blinds, the rugs, the walls, stove cleaning, fridge cleaning, holes in the wall (also interesting considering they tell you not to fill the holes). The charges start at $12 and go all the way to $300. It is absolutely unbelievable. Tamarlane is not the place you want to be. It looks pretty on the outside, and even on the inside in some cases. With the amount of money you pay to live there, though, you could buy a large home. It's not a good value, for anyone, and there isn't a single thing I could list that makes living there worth it. Keep looking, there's nothing "luxurious" about this place, its staff, or what they have to offer.

Could Find Better, Could Find Worse
When we originally signed the lease to the apartment, when essentially got what we paid for - the location wasn't ideal, but adequate, and some services were provided that made life easier (plowing, etc.) Unfortunately, there are several downsides which often overshadow the benefits of Tamarlane. While the staff are very friendly, they often are unaware of maintenance tasks and other basic requests that are made; we've had three maintenance-related problems that needed to be brought to the staffs' attention several times before they were taken care of, not to mention issues with neighbors, etc. Basically, it's poorly managed and there's a palpable lack of communication between various staff members. As another reviewer mentioned, nickel-and-dime costs when leaving give the renter a bad taste and image of the complex when compared to the overall cost of living there. I would dismiss this if it were an isolated item with our apartment, but many others I've talked to experience the same when attempting to leave. The last item: cost. While the rent is above average for the area (approximately $1200-$1300 for our unit at the time of leaving,) the apartments don't have any sort of outstanding area to justify the cost. Utilities aren't included, the area isn't scenic and the facilities have additional costs included with their use (the pool is an exception.) Overall, this is not necessarily a bad or unsafe complex to live in, but there is much to be desired before I would recommend it to anyone looking to move into the area.
