Downtown living

I moved into MDC apartments about 10 months ago and would recommend it to anyone considering a rental downtown. The big plus point for the building is the location - Mill District City is one of the nicest parts of downtown and there are only 2-3 rental buildings. All other buildings are condos and are not professionally managed. The management of the building has been really nice and does everything they can to get the community feel going including organizing happy hours and other events. They even put up a calendar of daily activities every month to get things going. The only downside is the lack of staff - the management office hours are great but we have no after hours security/concierge person after 6 PM usually - except the weekend where we have coverage. The apartments are nice and they allow a lot of customization including painting the walls, wall mounting your TV etc. which is great! The quality of some of the appliances, fixtures etc. could have been better for the rent but it manageable. If you are not a pet owner, make sure to consider you are fine living in a building with pets. I had to deal with a horrible upstairs neighbor who kept letting their dog out on the patio instead of walking them outdoors. The management did help resolve the situation as much as they could. The only thing I would advise you to consider is the rental price - its fairly high. However, it is somewhat justified given the location (check zillow.com for condo prices) and how new the building is. P.S: The garage spots go quick so if you want one get it while they have some. If not, there are plenty of other lots around.
