Having seen 3 (possibly fake) reviews all on the same day, I thought I'd provide a review that tells the truth of living here.
1. Parking is terrible. People have to park illegally because all parking spots are taken. There are a lot of people who park commercial vehicles here. And, enforcement is practically non-existent. People park trailers, boats, limos, and more... sometimes taking a couple of parking spaces at a time. People park in front of other people's garages making it impossible to go to work. Having to wait for them to move their car is not fun. They say: "I had to park somewhere... sorry."
2. Utilities are much more expensive than elsewhere. FirstBilling, previously known as Heartland, are actually owned or have some tricky relationship with the Connor Group that OWNS Wakefield Glen apartments. You will be charged for services that are not delivered. Add about $70-80 per month in excess fees.
3. Hidden fees include Cable TV service. You'll need to pay an additional $100 per month for Time Warner service, whether you want it or not. And, this does NOT include the cable boxes. If you don't want service, you still have to pay the $100 per month. If you do want to actually use the service, you'll still have to pay another $25 or so to get the Cable boxes.
4. Want a garage... fork over another $125 per month.
5. Want to rent a washer and dryer? They charge a lot! Buy one yourself, you'll save money.
6. Have a dog or a cat? You'll need to pay a non-refundable pet deposit. That's standard and acceptable. BUT, you'll also need to pay an additional $30 per month per pet as pet rent! That is outrageous!
7. While the parking and the prices are terrible, the room layout is good. But, you WILL hear your neighbors: above, below, and on the side.
8. The HVAC system is LOUD! Not just LOUD... VERY LOUD! When it comes on, I can't hear the television! I finally had to buy wireless headphones to listen to the TV. And, the AC doesn't cool the apartment uniformly. One room is too cold. One is just right. And, another is too hot. And, the apartment is not energy efficient. The AC or the heating need to run almost all the time to keep the temperature where I want it.
9. When maintenance is required on the bathrooms to fix the caulking that cracks, the workmanship is very poor. The people who do the work have very poor experience and the work is exceedingly sloppy.
10. The appliances are bottom end. The refrigerator is only a very small 31" refrigerator! And, it has bouncy wire shelves. The oven is the bottom of the line. And, Wakefield Glen does NOT provide microwave ovens.
11. The carpeting, too, is the bottom of the line. A neighbor who lived here for over 6 years moved out and they didn't replace the carpeting. The new stuff I got was crunchy to walk on... definitely not something you'd want a baby to be crawling on. And, in less than a year it started showing bad signs of wear. The underfloor is concrete and they paste a thin vinyl made to look like hardwood over the entry, the kitchen, and the baths. Looks cheap.
12. The patios are mouse infested. Despite repeated attempts at controlling the rodents, there is mouse poop to clean up every week.
13. The grounds frequently have dog poop on the grass. A lot of tenants walk their dogs offleash. Many don't clean up after their dogs. It's a constant nuisance. They have policies about not allowing certain dog types, but it is not enforced. Yes, there are dangerous dogs here.
14. When it rains, the walkways frequently flood. Very bad drainage.
15. There are continual police actions taking place here. I don't feel safe.
It is very expensive to move, so I've endured this place for 3 years. But, I've finally had it and will not be renewing my lease at the end of this year. I am so looking forward to reducing costs, reducing noise, and having a better quality of life.
Do yourself a favor and look somewhere else.
