Pros and Cons.

When I was searching for apartments in PA, I look at about a dozen different apartments (Yardly, Fairless Hills, Langhorne, Morrisville, Bensalem) and narrowed it down to a top-5 list. Korman Suites would not be what I would call my dream apartment, but it suits my needs. First, to give you an idea of where I'm coming from and how I based my decision, I should let you know that I was looking for temporary housing (1yr) and my main concerns were cost, security, and distance from work. So although Korman wasn't the nicest, I think it was the most cost efficient without sacrificing safety. Pros of Korman: Nice community, REALLY nice gym, free pool. Looked like new carpets were put in. Cons: Looks like painting is their main cleaning solution...and they don't take care to avoid the phone jacks. That being said, there was one phone jack in the kitchen that worked and the cable jack worked in the living room. Kitchen cabinets are a bit small with unwieldy knobs. I personally think the electrical plugs in the kitchen are not in the best positions. The bathroom mirror "cabinet" is dinky and poorly designed. If you're ultra sensitive to noise, my friend noticed a continual humming sound at night (I personally didn't notice it). There was an incidence of graffiti on the mailbox in the area, but Korman cleaned it up somehow within the week. Washer/Dryer unit is small. Maintenance/mgmt office/renting office staff are sometimes hard to catch if you have to see them in person. They seem to sometimes leave earlier than their stated closing time. I did have a problem with the renting office person not being there despite calling and telling them I would be there at a certain time. However, someone else was able to help me. You have to pay your own electric/cable/internet, but everything else is covered. I don't know how prompt/efficient their maintenance is...my experience is limited in that area (yay). Parking in my area is fine. There was only 1 time I had to park in a section farther away. Haven't had problems with loud neighbors, but my new neighbor did say that her old neighbors were very noisy. I can hear their TV sometimes, but it's not bad. In my 2 bedroom apt, the smaller room is noticeably smaller and has the fuse box and some random closed off mini-door (maybe for the AC?) in the corner that is kind of ugly. Electricity bill was under $50 in the summer but I don't use AC much or that many appliances in general. So basically, decent place for the cost and nice extra features like the gym and pool. I haven't had any major complaints yet. Hope that was helpful **Update: 1) I did have a maintenance issue at one point and just as a FYI, the maintenance man (at least the one I spoke to) lives in Philly and not in Korman...however, he was friendly and came within a couple hours. 2) Parking is still okay...but I think that really depends on where your apartment is located. I jogged through the grounds once, and I can see why some people complain about parking. I think as you get farther away from the clubhouse or closer to the main road, the less parking there is. 3) The doorbells are a joke. 4) I don't like how there's no recycling. In the brochure it says that there are "blue" containers in the trash area...but if they mean the faded blue painting inside some of the trash containers...those are definitely being used for trash and not recycling. 5) So far my electricity has been under $100 a month...but I think that's due to how little I use it...so I could see it getting quite high if you heat your whole apt to a decent temperature. 6) I still like the gym. 7) The business area can get crowded quickly.
