This will be the most honest review you will read. I've only been living at village square for 2 months. Like any apartment it has its pros and cons. I'll do my best to try and address as much as possible since I realize how hard it is to choose the best quality for price when searching for a new place to live. Inside the apartments (2 bedrooms upstairs Reed Unit): When we moved in there were a number of things that needed fixing. It was small things like cabinet handles being loose or washer door handle not latching properly. After taking the time to detail the problems on the "move-in quality assessment paper" everything was eventually taken care of by maintenance. Newly carpeted, this was nice. The walls were freshly painted; however, they painted over any existing nails or wall fixtures that were left from prior tenants. This is just plain lazy as it isn't too difficult to remove old nails then Spackle/sand before painting. We also did a thorough cleaning of the kitchen and bathroom upon move-in. The rooms are spacious and there is a lot of natural lighting which is nice. The bathrooms are a bit small and ugly. The kitchen cabinets are old, but it's doable, since the upgraded kitchen isn't worth the cost. The living room/dining room is a nice size. Central air seems to work very well. Except for an occasional door closing, we don't hear much at all. The noise level is great. Easy to sleep, can't hear TVs, conversations, or radios. We are upstairs, so I don't know if this is the same for downstairs units. Appliances: The kitchen appliances all seem to work well. No real complaints, other than they are all different colors (Black, dishwasher, white/tannish Oven/stove, white fridge). When we moved in, the washer was newer and the dryer was older than dirt. The dryer would take 3 to 4 hours per load to dry. We put in several maintenance requests about the dryer. After a few visits from maintenance trying to blame the long drying time on lint or the low wattage, we put in a complaint with the property manager and soon received a new dryer which dries everything within 30-45 minute. Other than the dryer issue that was quickly resolved, we are happy with the appliances. Atmosphere: We live in one of the courtyards, so we regularly walk by other people. We also take a nightly walk around the complex and out of courtesy give a passerby hello to people we encounter. I'd say we get a response maybe 3 out of 10 times, so friendliness is not at an all-time high (We are in our 20's and aren't creepy/unfriendly). As for the person below commenting about these being halfway houses, I'm pretty sure they are assisted living and not halfway houses. There are "creepy" people outside from time to time, but I've never felt threatened or unsafe. Most of them just sit outside probably because they are stuck in, since they require assisted living. We are expecting our first child soon, so safety is of the utmost importance. Overall I don't feel unsafe and the place is well lit at night. Maintenance: We've been here for two months and had to put in about 6 maintenance requests for everything to get done. The maintenance people I've deal with are friendly, but they definitely seem to cut corners where possible. I'm very handy and actually took it upon myself to do some of their tasks because they took over a week to come or said they'd return and never did. Parking: It sucks, not enough spaces, so I have to park on the adjacent street about 50% of the time. If you want a spot you need to race home from work and be there by 5:00 -5:30. First come first serve basis. Pets: Don't have any, but see a lot of dogs around. There seems to be a lot of pet cleanup stations around. They also have a small area near the tennis court where you can let your dog run around for a bit (bark park I think its called). Bugs: Let me start by saying I hate bugs. Except for an occasional house centipede (3-4 in the past two months), we've seen none. We keep our apartment clean, so bugs haven't been an issue. House centipedes, while gross looking, do actually keep other bugs out and are for the most part harmless. No ants, No roaches, no mice, no spiders. Pool: Very nice, extremely large. Would be nice if they gave you a guest pass or two, but not a big deal. Fitness center: Haven't used it, since I use the Planet Fitness about 1 minute away. It looks nice inside though. Price: $1035 for a 2 bedroom with a washer/dryer in unit is very reasonable., especially considering the surrounding area and access to major roadways. The electric bill for the first month was only $103 for me. That is with 2 TVs, 2 computers, central air running, long dryer time (read appliances section) and cooking nightly. Not sure how other people are getting 3-400$ bills, but I'd be pissed too if mine was that high. Cable: Comcast is your only option. I will do you a favor and spare you from a rant on Comcast. Overall: This place is what you make of it. We moved in, painted our rooms, made some modifications, added paintings and decorations and couldn't be happier. I would recommend this place to others. It's nice and quiet here and the staff is very helpful. I tend to be a positive person, so I make the best of everything. 7/10
