It's not THAT bad guys...

Take these reviews with a grain of salt, EVERY place on this site has horrible reviews probably half by people who never lived there. People who have a positive experience don t take the time to write a review, so all you see is the negative reviews who people feel they need to share with the world in any way. Keep that in mind. I have had a generally positive experience in my 2 years at Village Square. While it isn t perfect, show me what apartmet is around here. Few points: -Maintenance: I ve always had requests fulfilled within a day or two for routine things from sink plunging to lock readjusting. Emergency things they were generally pretty good about coming immediately. Minor roof leak behind my wall, roofing contractor was on the roof the next day replacing shingles. When I moved in, the AC did not work. The man spent all day repairing it which included lugging a 100 lb main unit up the stairs and installing it, this all in the sweltering 95 degree heat. Never a problem with it since. Washer one time started gushing water out the bottom, and this was at 9PM, and they would not come out till morning. I had to empty it by bucket, and sop up the mess, probably leaked into the downstair's neighbors HVAC closet. Now it was fixed the next day, but that wasn't fun. Also, they can't seem to fix our common door, the frame is bent and they have came out to fix it probably 5 times and it just breaks again in a few days, or will not open. My downstairs neighbor and I just gave up after both being locked out on a saturday night w/o the other one home. Maintence guy came up from Philly somewhere, and was there in about 45 minutes. Also lately, the hot water pipes have air in them when I go to use the shower. How is that possible, it is a closed system! Also, screws in the studs or something are starting to come down from the ceiling, making ugly marks in the ceiling and chipping the paint off. Watch them try to charge me for that upon move out. -Staff: Never had a problem with them, they were nice to me even after I signed a lease. What do all these reviewers do, yell at them and swear that something is broke? Call them and be polite, most routine maintanence is done quick. It's that easy. $20 increase after 1st year, $30 second year. Decided to move elsewhere after 2 years. I could have stayed here if needed be. -Club: Free use of pool/gym. Short pool season(Mem. Day Labor Day) but nice big pool that is used by many residents. I have never used the gym but the equipment looks decent and it is usually busy. Gym is not large, few stairmasters/treadmills and other stations, that s it. -Rodents: haven t found any that don t mention insects. The house centipedes are a problem, my unit I only find 1 every other week or so. If you are terrified of critters you will not like them. But I don t feel they are more common than anywhere else in the summer time. I guess that s a hit or miss. Haven t found anything other than those things. This spring there seemed to be less. Winter got cold enough I would rarely find them, maybe 2 all winter. -Electricity: Be warned, electric heat and inefficient A/C. For 1 person my highest bill in the summer was $160. Winter capped at $130. Spring months with neither got down to $57. I bought and installed a programmable thermostat which does help a lot. The AC unit works great and is cold but is extremely inefficient(equals cheap). Doesn t work as well at 95 /100% humidity, but most units don t at those extremes. Other reviewers ----- about common electricity, look at the energyguide label on the AC unit, -------. It says it is the model that uses the MOST electricity, so of course your electric bills are going to be high! Of course the more inefficient, the cheaper they are so naturally an apartment complex will buy the cheap inefficient models. -Kitchen: My unit has new stove/fridge <3 years old. The dishwasher does sound like a jet taking off, it works, not the best one in the world though(again, cheap). Not much cabinet/counter space. -Parking: Adequate, not assigned. Everyone parks in the fire zones because they are too lazy to walk a few hundred feet. Worst case late at night I m never more than a couple minutes from my door. I have seeen people move handicap signs, just because they don't want to park 100 feet away. They stopped when I photographed their car and turned them into the police/management. Look people, just because you live somewhere in an apartment complex DOESN'T MEAN you are ENTITLED to parking NEXT to your door! And if you want to move the dumpsters and park there, and have your door dinged by the dumpsters moving and that smell on your car, be my guest. -Neighbors: I feel like the minority and I live in India sometimes. But they won't bother you and don't go shooting each other like places in Philly. If there are kids in your courtyard it will be kinda loud. Someone has a dog that howls at night that I can hear with my window shut, fan AND AC on, and the radio on. He's across the street on the far end! Neighbors below me are cool, but I can hear him snoring through the floor(he's THAT loud) -Others: I have seen people dumpster diving, don t throw out anything you don t want found. Painters they contract are dumb as toast and have painted over a temperature sensor sticking outside the window. They also painted right over the cable jack and telephone ports. This renders the cable jack useless without a new one. Easy fix, but still. Phone port in the kitchen doesn t work, but you must specifically sign a form saying the apartment is not responsible for the telephone/cable wiring in the apartment. Thus it would be a ridiculous price to have Verizon fix it, and after attempting to rewire it myself and killing the other active port, I have given up and lived with the cordless phone in the bedroom. 1 cable jack in the living room, that s it. Washer/Dryer are small but adequate. Bathroom really needs to be redone, tiles are peeling up and shower/tub lining needs to be replaced. Fan hardly does anything. Probably the worst part of the apartment. People rip this place, I have lived here 2 years and found it to be sufficient. At times I feel like I am living in India and I'm the minority. If you get noisy kids in your courtyard it will be very loud. The place is not outstanding, but sufficient. Probably about 3.5/5. It s not that bad. I'm moving for a change of scenery and to a place with a little better floorplan and a real sized kitchen. But if I didn't find it I would have probably lived here another year. People find the need to come rip a place apart when they had to walk their fat --- 3 minutes when they got home at 3am one night. They think they are entitled to a PERFECT apartment with ZERO problems, parking RIGHT below/next to their apartment and cheap rent, yet they ----- when things break. If they dont get ALL of those things, they come online and rip this place to shreds. Grow up. I have done my best to be totally honest in this review.
