Wall decor can be expensive, but the alternative is cheap wall art. Your apartment doesn’t have to look cheesy, just because you’ve decided to save money in this area. There are great deals out there on otherwise expensive items, or you can buy cheap items that you can find in the home decoration section of your local department store or on the Internet.

1 – Hang Posters without Frames

Find posters for your wall that reflect your personality, or apartment decoration style. For example, if you’ve decided on a country style theme, then a poster of a farm or country living is perfect. You can also match the colors in the poster to the wall paint or furniture. Posters can work in all rooms, but it’s often not a good choice for the bathroom. Use it to cover holes or blotches on the walls, as well as to draw attention away from other eyesores in the room. Don’t frame posters to keep them in the cheap wall art category. Framing is expensive to do.

2 – Hang Fabric

Instead of posters, or in addition to them, hang fabric. This trick can add both style and dimension to any room. One of the popular uses of fabric on the wall is directly behind a couch. When you can contrast the colors, the room looks great and that area of your living room becomes its own focal point. You can also hang it on the wall of stairways, or above the fireplace mantle. It can also make a beautiful addition to bedrooms. Buying fabric at the store by the yard can be expensive, unless you buy the material you want on sale. The best places to find fabric cheap is at yard sales or at thrift stores.

3 – Hang Quilts

One way to utilize the quilts that were given to you or that you made yourself is to hang them up as cheap wall art. Quilts on the walls give a room a warm and cozy feel. It’s why they are used in some doctor’s offices and hospital settings, because the quilt on the wall is there to put patients at ease. You can achieve the same affect in your apartment. Patchwork quilts work great, but any that match your room colors can work. If you don’t already have quilts, check your area thrift stores and keep your eye out at yard sales. You can use quilts that are large enough to cover the entire wall, or smaller ones that are the size of wall posters.

4 – Family Photos

Make a poster out of your family photos and hang them up. You can glue or tape photos to card stock or matte paper, and hang them up along the wall. Choose various sizes for your photos and be creative with your designs. You can hang photos in a circular shape, in a line, in a square or in a rectangular shape. It’s best to use copies of photos, rather than the originals. If you make a mistake, then you won’t ruin your photos.

Cheap wall art is a great way to save money on decorating your apartment. You can use any of these suggestions to decorate your entire apartment.
