Knowing the different types of bathroom furniture will help you make the right choices for decorating. Your bathroom may be the smallest room in your house, but it’s one of the rooms your guests will visit. Therefore, you should do what you can to make it look pleasing to the eye. Here are 4 types of bathroom furniture explained.
1. Bathroom Mirrors
These come in all shapes, sizes and colors and their purpose is both stylistic and functional. It’s functional because you can see your face, which will help you to do many things including apply makeup, pick your teeth and shave your beard. Some vanities also show three fourths of your body, giving you the opportunity to see how you look in your clothes. Beyond using it for very practical purposes, bathroom mirrors can give a bathroom its style. It can define whether your bathroom has a modern, country or other design. It can also act as the focal point of your bathroom.
2. Bathroom Vanity Sinks
These are sinks that are built-in or freestanding that look better than standard sinks. Your apartment is more likely to have a built-in vanity (if it has one) because a freestanding one poses plumbing issues that your landlord will not want to deal with. They stand out because of unique designs and will define the look and feel of your bathroom. There’s not much you can do about your sinks when you’re renting an apartment, other than to accessorize it. You can pick hand towels, toothbrush and hand soap dispensers to match the color of the sink encasement.
3. Bathroom Cabinets
Bathroom cabinets are found below the sink and have dual purposes. You can use cabinets to store household products, towels, a toilet plunger or anything that you prefer to keep out of sight. If your apartment is small or lacks ample storage space, you can store other things in the cabinets, such as clothes. They also add style to the bathroom. Older cabinets are made up of all sorts of materials. Your apartment may have one that is all glass, marble or wood. You can’t install your own cabinets in a rental, but you can decide how best to utilize it as a storage space. If your cabinets are old, you can see whether your landlord will allow you to put a new finish on or paint them (if wooden).
4. Medicine Cabinet
This bathroom feature is useful to have to keep your medications and first aid supplies. It’s a small unit with shelves, and hangs on the wall. It will also have a mirror covering its front and a magnet connecting the door to the unit for easy opening and closing. You have to determine what medications and supplies you want to leave in there, because although they’ll be out of sight, many guests are notorious for looking to see what’s in there.
When you’re renting, the best you can do in most cases is the accessorize the bathroom furniture that already comes with your apartment. If all you’ve got is cheap bathroom furniture to work with, make the best of it by buying curtains, rugs and seat covers that will keep people’s eyes off it.
