5 Baby Bedroom Furniture Ideas for Your Apartment

Picking out baby bedroom furniture can be a special and fun time in your life. While furnishing the baby’s room is in some ways easier than other rooms in the apartment, it does still have its own set of challenges. You’re often limited by space in an apartment, and you might be tempted to stuff the room with too much furniture. Here are some ideas for baby bedroom furniture to get you started.

1. Cribs with Drawers

When you get a crib into your baby’s bedroom, it takes up a lot of space. You need more than a crib in the room, but other things may be tough to fit in. If you get a crib with drawers attached to it, you can store things like diapers or clothes there. This crib might be a little bigger than a standard one, but the drawers can help you reduce the number of other furniture pieces you’ll need. The extra size is actually worth the space in this instance.

2. Wall-Mounted Shelves

Wall mounted shelves are one baby bedroom furniture idea that saves floor space. Don’t place the shelf in a place where the baby can reach it. It’s not a good idea to put it above the crib either, to keep things from falling on the baby. You can store things clothing and small toys on wall-mounted shelves. Don’t set things on the shelf that are too heavy for it, as this could break the shelf depending on its strength.

3. Alternatives to a Changing Table

A standard changing table may be too big for an apartment room. There is some alternative baby bedroom furniture for you to change your baby on, though. You could invest in a crib with a built in changing pad as opposed to a crib with drawers. Otherwise a simple changing pad can be used. You just lay your baby down and change him or her on it, and then it can be folded up and stored underneath the crib. This saves space and changing pads are very affordable.

4. Baby Hampers

To save space, you can get a small baby hamper that fits in a corner. Big hampers would be a waste of the little space you have to work with. If you can’t find a small baby hamper, or you can’t afford one, don’t worry. You can take a small laundry bag and hang it from a doorknob. It would be preferable to keep it close to the “Crib ‘n Changer Combo,” or whatever choice you’re using for a changing table.

5. Toy Storage Bench

A toy storage bench can be a semi-comfortable option for baby bedroom furniture. The seat of the bench can lift up, and there’s space underneath to store all the baby toys that aren’t in use. Look for a bench that has a padded seat. You’ll appreciate the padding if you want to sit or lie down with your new baby.

Finding the right baby bedroom furniture will save space and hopefully provide plenty of comfort you and your little one. Although it might be a little harder for apartment dwellers to furnish a baby’s room, these ideas should get you started.
