5 Spring Cleaning Tips for Your Kitchen Cupboards

Staff Writer · Apr 13, 2011

If your kitchen cabinets haven’t been cleaned for a while and are starting to look a little dirty, spring can be the perfect time to give them the once-over. Here are some of the most common spring cleaning tips for dealing with grit and grime on wooden cabinets.

1. Dust Cabinets

Dusting with a lint-free cloth can get rid of a lot of the lighter and more transient dirt, both on the surface of cabinet panels and inside on the shelves or walls.

2. Degrease High Traffic Areas

Using degreasers on cabinets can help with some of the buildup that happens around the hardware, at the edges of panels, or elsewhere in the cabinet structure.

3. Put In Shelf Paper or Other Interior Shields

A lot of the worst messes in cabinets happen on the inside, where food spills and can cause buildup over time. Using shelf paper or rubber mats can cut down on the wear that your cabinets receive annually.

4. Polish Exteriors

Wood polish can really help with the exterior of a cabinet. Just giving your cabinets a brief polish can help them shine and add to their visual appeal, making them look newer and brighter.

5. Use Non-abrasive Cleaners

A lot of  common cleaners can be inappropriate for a wooden surface. Glass cleaners, floor cleaners and other solutions can have elements that can damage your wooden cabinets. Stick to wood polish or specially formulated wood cleaners.

The above will help homeowners or others to spruce up the kitchen cabinets for the spring season.
