Room dividers can fit any decor and are available in a variety of styles. Your choice of the perfect divider for your studio will depend on your finances, and how you plan to use it. A room divider can serve many purposes, in addition to dividing your studio space into sections. You don’t want to buy one that’s so cheap, that it will fall and break at the slightest touch. At the same time, you don’t have to break the bank over one divider.
1 – Panels
Traditional room dividers are made up for four panels with a wood frame. Wooden legs extend from the panels to hold up the divider. They can shrink or extend to a limited width. The panels are wide enough to give you or your things on the other side of the divider some privacy. They are typically easy to assemble, but you may need to have your own tools on hand. You can also find ones that come assembled. Most room dividers that are panels can fold for storage.
2 – Shutter Style
When you’re more concerned about creating “rooms” in your studio, use shutter style room dividers. They look like doors, and can help you achieve the look of separate rooms. Some of the styles include blinds on the dividers to open and shut as you please to control light. Many are made up of three or six panels, unlike the traditional panel styled dividers that are made up of four. Most models are made from natural wood.
3 – Decorative Dividers
If you want to combine art and function, then you should consider buying decorative dividers. Some decorative styles don’t do much for privacy, but they do create sections in your studio apartment. Here are just a few that are available at stores:
You can find colors and decorative themes to suit any style you choose for your studio. If you can’t find one locally, try searching on the Internet.
4 – Shelves
Many studios could benefit from additional storage solutions, and room dividers with shelves are a great fit. These room dividers contain display shelves to fit books, decorative items or anything you want. They are often more expensive than other divider styles, because they are multi-functional, but you may be able to find one used. It would be more cost effective in most cases to buy a separate book case or display shelf and a separate traditional room divider in most cases.
5 – Fabric
Some panels are made of fabric that you can take off and wash from time to time. You can find ones that are waterproof and weather resistant. Fabric may be an alternative to wood if you’re concerned about durability, chips and scratches. You can still use a wood frame, or a metal one.
Once you think through your options for room dividers and decide what you would like to buy, try to wait for clearance sales. Also check thrift stores for bargains.
