5 Ways to Show School Spirit in a College Apartment

Furnishing your college apartment isn’t quite the same if you don’t use the opportunity to show off your school spirit. Having your apartment decorated to show off your school spirit is not only an attractive theme for your dorm-like life, but it’s also a memorable way to capture your college experience.

1. School Spirit Wall Decor

One benefit of being a college student is that you can still embrace a bit of the kid in you, so you don’t need to hang only high class art and framed posters on your wall. Instead, decorate your college apartment walls with school flags and school sports team pennants. You can also put up a poster of your favorite sports team at the school or a poster of an aerial view of the campus grounds.

2. School Spirit Bedroom

Another easy place to show off your school spirit in your college apartment is the bedroom. Finding sheets, pillows and a comforter with your school logo on them should be fairly easy if you’re going to a larger school. If your smaller school doesn’t have more than a basic pillow, then look for bedding and a comforter in your school colors from any bedding store. You can also add something cute to your bed like a stuffed animal with your school logo on it or a plush of your school mascot, both of which should be available at your school bookstore.

3. School Spirit Dining

Another great way to incorporate your school spirit into your college apartment lifestyle is with your dining utensils. You’ll need your own set of cups, plates, mugs, water bottles, eating utensils and cooking utensils, all of which you may find emblazoned with your school logo. If you can’t find your school logo on dining accessories, purchase a set of plain-colored dishes in your school colors.

4. School Spirit Blankets and Loungewear

When spending time in your apartment, you’ll want to be comfortable so that you can concentrate while studying or relax while taking a break. You can cuddle up with blankets and pillows that have your school logo on them, which you can drape over your couch and/or lounge chair when not in use. (Again, if you can’t find ones with your school logo, buy them in your school colors.) Wear a t-shirt or sweatshirt with your school name on it, which you can pair with slipper socks with your school name as well. You can even often find robes or sleeved blankets with school logos on them.

5. Put Up Pictures of Your Friends

Showing school spirit isn’t just about displaying your school logo throughout your apartment. Make new friends and take pictures together on campus or wearing school sweatshirts. Then print out the photos, frame them and display them throughout the apartment.

Your university bookstore is the perfect place to find items and furnishings with which to decorate your college apartment, but you may be surprised to find cheaper school spirit items online or in stores local to the college area, especially if you’re going to a relatively large university. You can purchase your furnishings ahead of time and be ready to decorate your apartment as soon as you move in.
