When you live in an apartment, knowing a few kitchen storage solutions can make your life much easier. If there’s one thing any apartment does not have, it’s extra space. Follow a few of these kitchen storage tips, and make space in your crowded kitchen.
1. Maximize Cabinet Space with Rotating Shelves
The most basic of kitchen storage solutions is to add shelves to your cabinet, turning 1 to 2 shelves into 3 to 4. However, when planning your kitchen decorating, make sure you get rotating cabinet shelves (a.k.a. “lazy susans”). Why? With a simple spin of your hand, you can reach what you’ve stored at the back of the cabinet rather than removing everything in front.
2. Maximize Counter Space with Food Storage Containers
Don’t just throw your bread, cereal, noodles, etc. willy-nilly on your kitchen counter. Your counter is one place where you can use kitchen storage solutions to double, or even triple, your space. Between your kitchen appliances, you can put stackable food storage containers or food storage dispensers that hang off of the wall. The hangable dispensers are both functional and stylish when it comes to kitchen decorating!
3. Use Over-the-Door Shelves
Whether in a floor-to-ceiling pantry or a simple cabinet, you can add space that did not initially exist by hanging an over-the-door shelf on the inside of the door. A cabinet over-the-door shelving system usually includes between 2 to 3 shelves, and a pantry over-the-door shelving system can include 5 shelves. Just don’t load it up with too many heavy items, which can add stress to the door.
4. Maximize Drawer Space with a Drawer Divider
You’ll spare yourself the time of rummaging through a disorganized drawer full of random items when you have a multiple compartment system in place. Plus, you’ll avoid injuring yourself if you set aside and organize sharp and pointy things!
5. Organize Kitchen Appliances with Caddies and Canisters
Have your most frequently used kitchen appliances within easy reach when you organize them in kitchen counter caddies and canisters. These kitchen storage solutions don’t take up much space, and often have multiple compartments so you can organize your kitchen appliances by function or frequency of use.
6. Get a Kitchen Cart
If you’re really short on counter space (and even adding organizers for food and kitchen appliances doesn’t help), purchase a kitchen cart. These workstation and storage systems are on four wheels and can be moved to a corner of the kitchen when not in use and out of the kitchen when you’re cooking (or you can use one for cooking). Not only can you store items inside a movable cabinet on these carts, you can chop food on a cutting board surface.
6 simple kitchen storage solutions can turn even the smallest of apartment kitchens into a highly efficient and easy-to-use workspace. You’ll save yourself time and hassle when you plan your kitchen decorating with kitchen storage solution tips in mind. So stop wasting your money on takeout. Save money by using your kitchen wisely!
