Bedrooms have certain unspoken rules that most people follow when it comes to decorating a bedroom. There’s calming or neutral colors, a simple bed and nightstand focus and usually a television set. However, more people are looking for a little something special and unconventional when it comes to bedroom decorating. There are some things that can really change how you feel when you step into your bedroom. It should be a haven that reflects your own personality and sense of fun.
1. Themes
An obviously themed bedroom decor is really fun. Look at most kid’s rooms, and there will be themed sheets and bedroom decor. There’s on reason why people of all ages can’t indulge in this fun. Let your bedroom reflect what your hobbies are now as much as they did in year’s past. If you enjoy baseball, don’t worry about seeming like a college kid when you frame a photograph of what you perceive as the sport’s greatest moment. If you like gardening, don’t be afraid of bringing remnants of it into your bedroom. Anything goes. It’s your space.
2. Edgier Looks
Defy the neutral-colored bedroom standard by painting your bedroom walls a dark color. Black is the most extreme, but some people even go for gold or silver. Once you decide what you want for the overall look of your room, a color will come more easily to mind. For instance, if you want to place black and white art or photography all over your walls, black might be a a nice compliment. Make sure to check with your landlord if you’re renting before doing any painting; you’ll need permission to do so.
3. Scenes
If you want to feel like you’re going into a whole other world, you may want to put a mural on one or two of your walls. You can get scenes of all kinds. From a scenic beach view to medieval castles to Madonna, as sold on her official website. You can permanently glue these to your wall, or some people opt to pin the panels of the scene to the wall for ease of removal later on.
4. Memory Appreciation
In the age of digital photography and cameras, there are constant chances to take pictures for little cost. Upload and print them yourself or print them cheaply from websites like PhotoBucket. Frame them and cover your walls in them. Use some frames that stand a few feet long, and opt for some tiny frames. The varying sizes in photographs and frames will give the walls more visual appeal. Be sure to choose particularly favorite photographs or memories for a few poster-sized prints. You can even compliment this theme by having photo-laden quilts made.
5. Music
There’s no need to banish a hobby to a separate hobby room. There are few places more comfortable than your own bedroom so why not bring what you truly enjoy into the room. You’ll likely spend more time doing what you love if you’re celebrating it. Consider having musical notes stenciled on the wall. Set up a place for your musical instruments and sheet music in your bedroom.
6. Mix and Match
Bring together how you truly want your room to look with what makes you the most comfortable, and you’ll have the ideal bedroom design for you.
