Wish your apartment were in the big city? You no longer need to go to the big apple to get the latest fashion and decorating tips. Apartment Therapy is to the rescue. Beginning in New York, Maxwell Gillingham-Ryan the NY editor and cofounder, has successfully caught our attention with a high décor rating.
We aren’t the only ones who think they’re great:
Only months after its launch, the New York Times, called ApartmentTherapy.com “quietly addicting”. Apartment Therapy was also featured in the New York Post, The Daily News, and a variety of regional newspapers in the United States and Canada, and Ready Made magazine. In 2004, ApartmentTherapy.com was nominated for a Webby Award in the lifestyle category.
It’s a blog with:
Advice:
Not only do they give advice about how to get scratches off of your bathtub, they also give advice about which color would be best in your apartment, or what set up you should try. They give you an opportunity to post pictures of your apartment and ask the opinions of thousands of people. This is a great resource for many problems you may face, including computer and internet problems.
Contests
ApartmentTherapy.com loves color and decorating. What a better way to show that by having contests. Their most recent contest they just completed was the “I’ve Got Color! Final Smackdown.” This contest was not only about the colors in the homes of these contestants, but also about innovative ways they incorporated color and dealt with ways in small space situations, which many apartment renters face.
Furniture:
Apartment Therapy features different types of furniture daily. They not only have contemporary and modern types of furniture like the DS 152 sofa by De Sede, but they also include vintage types like this Armless Restoration Hardware Couch.
ApartmentTherapy.com also gives many great ideas like how to save space or how to remodel a piece of furniture. They also have some cool appliances, like this toast-toaster.
House tours:
With the virtual house tour, Apartment Therapy can share with their readers other homes. One of my favorite house
tour is the remodeling the closet. What is a woman’s personal space if she was unable to organize her closet? There are pictures of before and after. There is also a space for viewers to leave their comments. Although many apartment renters are unable to handle such a large task as remodeling their closet, these house tours can give ideas as to how to set up your apartment, the colors you should use, or what not to do in your comfort zone. Another favorite is of “Cedric’s bachelor’s pad.” There are even cute captions in the slide show.
