Choosing the right bed style is the arguably the most important aspect of bedroom decorating. Your bedroom is where you’ll retreat to sleep or rest, and having the perfect bed for you can help tremendously. There are many bed styles, and what you select depends on your budget and space. However, you don’t have to break the bank to buy a bed that reflects your personality and matches your bedroom decor. Here are just a few ideas to consider:
Sleigh Bed
Like the name suggests, sleigh beds have curved headboards and footboards. This contemporary bed style adds a nostalgic look to any room. If you like wood finishes, have hardwood floors or like the look and feel of sleighs, then this type of bed if for you. Bedroom decorating can be used to conjure up good feelings or take you back in time. A sleigh bed is sure to do that, if you enjoyed the winter months when growing up or have fond memories of sleighs.
Platform Bed
These are popular for their simplicity, requiring no box springs. The platform lifts the bed off the floor the way a box spring would, and they don’t often have headboards or footboards. They’re made of various materials, including wood and metal. You can even find some that are upholstered. This is great choice for small spaces or if you like the minimalist approach to bedroom decorating. Platform beds don’t look cluttered like other bed styles and are easy to assemble.
Futon Bed
Every college student is familiar with a futon bed. It’s made up of a lightweight (compared to most beds) metal frame, wood posts and a futon mattress. Futon beds are often seen as a temporary solution to having a bed. For example, if you’re saving up for a more expensive bed down the road, or plan to move out after a short a time, then a futon bed makes sense. It also solves a small space problem. If you don’t have room for other furniture, then you can use a futon bed for your couch in addition to your bed. Don’t plan to use these long-term, as they’re not the most comfortable beds. However, a futon bed will do for a short while.
Day Bed
Day beds work like futon beds, but they’re more sturdy. It doubles up as a sofa and bed, which saves you space in your bedroom. Day beds don’t have to be tiny. You can find ones that are king-sized. They work well for guests too, and can be used for seating in the living room.
Canopy Bed
If you’re going for luxury, then a higher-end bed style to choose is a canopy bed. There’s usually a top enclosure for you to drape fabric of your choice around it. You can buy contemporary and classic style canopy beds to fit your bedroom decorating needs. They come in a variety of finishes, such as metal or wood, and can make a room look exotic based on the finish, fabric and materials you use.
With so many styles to choose from, you may have trouble deciding on a bed. The key is to go with comfort. You can always use bedding and other accessories to make it fit your bedroom decorating themes.
