Change the Look of Your Apartment with Seasonal Decorating

Changing the look of your apartment seasonally doesn’t have to be a laborious or expensive process. In fact, with a basic knowledge of your town’s craft stores, it can be accomplished easily and leave your place looking fantastic!

Fall

A decorator’s dream! Fall offers all kinds of wonderful decorating opportunities, for nearly every room of your house!

In the living room, a set of red curtains framing a window makes the whole room feel cozy and comfortable, while a dining table centerpiece of gold and orange compliment it nicely. You might even consider collecting the most beautiful leaves from the yard and make a fall collage out of them, gluing them to paper/canvas, and hanging it up for everyone to see.

Craft stores invariably sell centerpieces, wreaths and other accent pieces specifically tailored for fall, and these can be purchased for relatively cheap almost anywhere!

Apple-scented candles, usually red, add a nice, homey touch to a room, and allow you to spend some brisk fall nights in shivering candlelight.

Winter

If you’re into Christmas, these decorations are no-brainers; tinsel, garlands, streamers, ornaments and wreaths make fantastic decorations for your house.

If you’re artistic, a set of candelabras salvaged from a thrift store and decorated make a wonderful decoration, and they provide a place for you to burn candles on those long, dark winter nights!

To ward off the icy chill, try decorating with colors other than the traditional white, blue or silver. Bright reds, yellows, greens and purples make a room feel warmer, as well as add a festive touch.

Spring

After a long, dark, cold winter, you want to remind yourself as often as possible that the weather is improving, and light blues, greens, whites and yellows are the ticket.

A decorative wind chime placed outside an open window makes a pretty spring accent piece, as well as adding a little music to the room!

A new set of double-layer curtains, easy to make for the enthusiastic home-seamstress, make a room feel light and airy. Try layering a sheer fabric of white over another, thicker colored sheet to create beautiful effects; for example, white sheer over light spring green or blue makes a fresh statement.

If you like Easter, then painted eggs and cartoon rabbits abound in your local craft stores. For the more sober decorator, a few decorated eggs in pretty bowl makes a wonderful centerpiece.

Summer

Decorating for summer is the least time-consuming, since the warmth and sunlight negates the necessity of being inside very often!

Emerald green is a great color for summer, and it can be distributed liberally around the kitchen, dining room and living room. Add in some accents of royal blue and sunshine yellow, perhaps in the form of placemats or tablecloths, and your home is ready for the warm season!

Alternatively, if the heat sometimes gets to you, you can decorate “colder”, with blues of all shades, whites and cool greens, to make the house feel cooler. And above all, have fun!
