Cheap and Natural Mold and Mildew Removal

Mold and mildew removal is a household chore that often times leads to purchasing household cleaning supplies that do not live up to your expectations, and which are expensive and harsh on you and the environment. You can save time, and money, and stay green by making natural mold and mildew removers yourself.

The Vinegar Solution for Mold and Mildew Problems

Items to Purchase: Spray bottle (1 quart) and white vinegar.

Simply fill the spray bottle halfway with the white vinegar, and halfway with water. That’s it. Use this cheap, natural concoction to rid yourself of your mold and mildew problems. Just spray and wipe. Vinegar and water can also be used to clean other areas of your home, such as laminate or vinyl floors. You don’t have to worry about breathing in the fumes either because this is a natural solution that does not produce harsh, damaging fumes as chemical products do. Don’t let your pets or children drink the stuff, but if they are around while you’re cleaning, you don’t have to worry about that either.

The Tea Tree Oil Solution for Mold and Mildew Problems

Items to Purchase: Spray bottle (1 quart) and tea tree oil extract.

Tea tree oil is something commonly found in the skin care aisle, especially in natural beauty products and stores. You can also find it for sale on its own as an extract. A small bottle can be a little pricey, but you need very little of it. Put about 1-2 teaspoons of the tea tree oil in your spray bottle, and fill the rest of the bottle with water. Spray the solution on the area were mold and mildew removal is required, and wipe away. As with the vinegar solution, there are no toxic fumes. Simply spray and wipe.

The Lemon and Salt Solution for Mold and Mildew Problems

Items to Purchase: Spray bottle (1 quart), lemons and salt.

This mixture of lemons and salt is great, not just for mold and mildew on tile, but also on cloth materials, such as camping equipment. Sqeeze the lemon juice into your spray bottle, and fill a small bowl with salt. Spray the area to be treated with the lemon juice, apply some of the salt, and scrub. Another simple, non-toxic solution. This one actually smells great too!

The Grapefruit Solution for Mold and Mildew Problems

Items to Purchase: Spray bottle (1 quart) and grapefruit seed extract.

Grapefruit seed extract can be found at many natural food stores. It will come in a small bottle, most likely, but a little is all you need. Put about a teaspoon of the extract in your spray bottle, and fill the rest of the bottle with water. Simply spray the problem area, and scrub away. Contrary to what you may think, grapefruit seed extract actually has very little smell, so this is a great solution if any sort of aroma bothers you.

Mold and mildew removal does not have to be expensive, and it doesn’t have to be toxic. Each of these solutions is cheap, easy to make, and natural. They also have an indefinite shelf life.
