Whether you are a Denver native, or moving to Denver for the first time, it is important to choose the right Denver neighborhood for you.
Living in Downtown Denver
Downtown Denver is one of the largest downtown areas in the United States. In Downtown Denver, you are surrounded by shopping, restaurants, museums and culture.
Downtown Denver itself is split into two sections: the modern, skyscraper section, and Lower Downtown, or LoDo, which is the historic section. But don’t be mistaken. LoDo is one of the most lively, urban areas of Downtown Denver. It is also easy to get around Downtown Denver due to their extensive light rail, a Denver public transportation system. So, if you are looking for urban living, or to be surrounded by things to do, places to go, and people to see, then living in Downtown Denver may be the right neighborhood for you.
Living in Uptown Denver
There is a Downtown, and there is an Uptown in Denver. Uptown in a very hot area to be in right now. It is home to a zoo, and the Museum of Nature and Science. Uptown Denver mixes older homes with newer, modern apartment buildings. On the one hand Uptown Denver provides a restaurant row, similar to Downtown Denver, but here there are also extensive jogging and biking trails, as well as a phenomenal view of the Rockies. To get around Uptown Denver a car is suggested, but there is bus service, and cabs are available. If you are looking for a mix of urban and suburban, consider Uptown Denver as your neighborhood.
Living in Five Points
Five Points, also called Eastside, is to the northeast of Downtown, and is by some, considered the Harlem of Denver. The area has a rich African-American culture with a long-standing jazz heritage, as well as museums and libraries devoted to African-American history. The area is a mix of old Victorian-style homes, and new apartment buildings, including loft apartments, and is known for great BBQ and soul food restaurants. Five Points is accessible by light rail, and is a good place for you if you are looking for an older home in an urban area. The Victorians are beautiful!
Living in The Golden Triangle Museum District
As the name states, this Denver neighborhood is full of museums and galleries. Accessible by shuttle, this culturally rich area also has many coffee shops, nightclubs and restaurants. This is a great area for anyone that is into the arts, or is artistically inclined.
Other Areas Close to Downtown Denver
Some other areas that are close to Downtown include Highlands and Cherry Creek North. Highlands has many small, quaint shops, and a cultural district with a number of art galleries. Cherry Creek North is a shopping and restaurant mecca, and interestingly, is connected to Downtown by a 22 mile bike path. Either of these may also be good options if you are looking for urban living without being in the center of it all.
