Colorful Bedroom: Using Bedding to Add Flare

The right bedding can add the perfect touch to a beautifully designed bedroom and can add a spark to an otherwise stale look as well. Your bedroom’s centerpiece is the bed, and the blankets, covers and comforters set the tone for the rest of the room. Here’s how you can use your bedding to add flair to the room.

Bedding in a Furnished Apartment

When you move into a furnished apartment, your bedding may be one of the few ways that you get to customize the bedroom and make it your own. Even if you are allowed to rearrange the furniture, you’re typically not allowed to change the colors of the walls or take out any furniture that’s there. Instead, you need to choose bedding that both compliments the existing decor and expresses your taste.

Go for matching colors or contrasting colors. If the apartment is pretty bland, go for a striking pattern. If the apartment decor is rather loud, solid colors are typically best. Start with taking note of what you do like about the furnished apartment’s existing decor, then build on that with your bedding options.

Bedding as Decoration

If you are moving into an unfurnished apartment, you’ll likely have free range to do whatever you want with your bedroom decor, from the bedding to the wall colors. If so, you want to decide what you want the decor of your bedroom to be. Once you decide a color scheme, theme or overall look that you want for your bedroom, you want to pick the bedding to go with it. Choose what you really want.

You may opt for a solid color sheet set and blanket, then choose a throw to lay on top of the made bed that reflects a passion or hobby. Throws are sold for many hobbies, from “Anne of Green Gables” to your favorite football team to musical instruments you may play. That’s a great way to express your greatest passion on your bedding, adding a personal flair to any decor.

Redecorating with Bedding

If you are tired of the bedroom decor that you chose years ago, it’s a good idea to freshen things up in an inexpensive way. Picking new bedding is much cheaper than buying new furniture, and it’s cheaper than re-painting the walls or choosing new art. Pour energy into what type of bedding can liven and revive your bedroom decor. If you have a dark room, you may go with a bright color like yellow to take the decor in an entirely different direction, and if your bedroom is full of pastels, a black or brown sheet set and blanket may really give the whole room a different overall feel.

Mix and Match Bedding

If you are someone who gets continuously bored with the same old things, pick bedding that is easily mixed and matched, such as complimentary colors in a sheet set, where you can have pillow cases easily mixed and matched, depending on laundry days, what’s clean or your particular mood. It’s best to have two blankets and two comforters as well, that all match the overall decor of your room. Mixed and matched bedding can add flair to your bedroom, while also keeping the look consistently fresh to you.
