Eliminating odors that tend to stick around such as fried food can be tricky, they don’t disappear as easily as other odors and may take more effort to get rid of. The smell lingers in the air long after you have cleaned up the dishes and seems to absorb into the walls as well. Try some of these tips and tricks to get rid of the smell next time you cook up a delicious fried food dinner.

Boiling Different Items

This seems to be an easy and inexpensive trick that usually works. Try boiling a cup of water along with a couple tablespoons of vinegar. The vinegar dissipating into the air usually will get rid of that smell of fried food. If you don’t want to try the boiling method then simply set out a couple bowls with some vinegar in them while cooking. Another item that can added to water for boiling is cloves. If you do not like the smell of cloves, don’t try this one because they can have a very powerful smell. The boiling releases the scent from them into the air. Orange peels can also be added to boiling water to release their scent into the air more quickly than if they are just sitting out.

Clean Up

Many times the odor of fried food remains because the oil has splattered on countertops, absorbed into cabinets and there may be remnants stuck in the disposal. Sometimes a simple cleaning will do the trick. Clean up any remnants of splattered oil and use a degreaser on cabinets to remove any grease build up. Run the disposal as well to ensure everything has gone down the drain. Curtains or throw rugs can be run through the wash if they smell from the cooking as well.

Use a Fan

If your stove has an exhaust fan on it run it while you are cooking. This will get rid of the odor for the most part before it has a chance to absorb into everything and stink up the house. If you do not have a fan on your stove, set up a box fan to run while frying. Open up the windows and let is some fresh air as well while cooking, this will help prevent the odors from being caught indoors.

Using Different Scents

Other scents can be used around the home to cover up the smell of the fried food. Light a few candles while you are cooking that will help cover up the smell. This is especially helpful if you are cooking for guests and do not want the house smelly during dinner. Another way to use scents around the home is to put some vanilla extract on some tissue paper or cotton balls and spread them around the kitchen. This is an inexpensive method that will also make your house smell wonderful.
