If you and your family have decided to make some changes around your home, and are going green, then the bathroom is a great place to get started. There are many things you can do in the bathroom to make some big changes in water and energy conservation in your home. Going green in your bathroom will not only help the planet but it will save you a lot of money as well. Remodeling a bathroom may sounds like a big undertaking and a big expense but if you start adding up the money you will save in the long run you may find it well worth it.
1. Picking a New Shower Head
An easy place to start making some changes with the amount of water your family is using is with a new shower head. You don’t have to spend tons of money to make a dramatic drop in the water used during showering in your home. an average shower head uses about two and a half gallons of water a minute. Take into consideration how many people are in your family and how long they shower for each day and that amount of water adds up quickly. By buying a new low-flow shower head it reduces the amount of water being used per minute by around thirty percent and you usually won’t even notice the difference in water pressure.
2. Low Volume Toilets
The other big water waster in the bathroom is, of course, the toilet. Thousands of gallons can be saver per year by using a low volume toilet that uses less water to flush each time. Again, it may seem like a big expense but consider the amount you will be saving in water bills each year and it won’t seem bad at all. If you can not afford to replace the toilet, then at least ensure your toilet is working properly and not leaking or running constantly. A toilet that runs frequently because of water leaking will waste a lot of water.
3. Clean Green
Cleaning around the home can use up so many disposable paper towels or wipes, this is one simple way to go green. Clean the bathroom with a reusable rag or towel that can be used over and over again. Many cleaning supplies come in easy disposable items which may be time savers but are wasteful and expensive. Disposable toilet cleaning brushes are even made now but to go green use a toilet brush that can be used repeatedly for a long time. Use green cleaners to clean the bathroom and keep the air clean as well or mix up your won cleaners with household items like vinegar and baking soda.
Other Simple Ways to Go Green
Some additional ways to easily go green in your bathroom include buying recycled toilet paper and remembering to turn off the faucet while brushing your teeth. Also think recyclable when buying other personal items such as razors and toothbrushes. Buying items that only need replacement heads instead of disposable ones will also help make your bathroom a little greener.
