If you haven’t heard the news, the Chief of Police in Houston, Texas has proposed installing surveillence cameras in apartment complexes.
Houston aims cameras at apartment complexes
Without getting into a deep political discussion, this seems like Big Brother territory.
Do apartment dwellers have less right to privacy than homeowners? If this proposal moves beyond simply “a brainstorm” and is implemented, we may find that apartment hunters will have to start asking how many police cameras will record their comings and goings from their apartment. Maybe this is another reason to live in a rent house or small apartment complex.
Update: there is a reward for anyone who can provide video-taped evidence of Houston Police Chief Harold Hurtt committing a crime (any crime). I wonder how he’ll like being followed around by people with video cameras all the time.
