Wall murals are a beautiful way of decorating a wall. Some can be less expensive than a paint job, but others are extremely expensive. When it comes to apartment living, you want to go with ones that are either inexpensive are removable, if you don’t plan on making your apartment home for a long time. Whatever your plans, decorating your apartment with wall murals can be a lot of fun.
Decor of Choice
A wall mural can make a room seem bigger, especially because it negates the need to place furniture against a certain wall. Plain, painted walls look bare when left alone without hanging pictures and placing furniture against them, yet a mural tells a story in and of itself. It’s art and is fine with no additions. If you prefer minimal decor or simply don’t have a lot of furniture, the wall mural makes even more sense. Choose to place the murals in rooms that you know will be preferably light on furniture.
Picking the Perfect Wall Mural
Wall murals come in almost as many varieties as there are people. There’s something for every taste. Madonna offers wall murals of herself on her official website, which could be fun for a rock or pop music room. Motivate a child to play her flute, guitar or piano by having such a fun mural in the music room or music area of the apartment home. It’s also a fun idea if you teach music lessons out of your home. Consider putting a wall mural in the bathroom that reflects your chosen theme, whether a beach motif, a Parisian scene or any number of themes.
A kid’s bedroom is also the perfect place for a mural. Look at “Three Men and a Little Lady” to see how fun the idea can be, if you let your creativity go loose on a wall. Although most parents frown on painting or drawing on walls, keep in mind that a wall can always be re-painted. Placing a basic character mural on the wall, then letting your child express himself can be a great way to decorate the room and thrill the child. If you opt for a paper mural, you may choose one that’s easy to remove as well, in case the child outgrows or royally messed up such a mural.
The Unexpected
If you want to really go all out, set aside an entire room for murals. This is especially great for an extra room, one you may use for dance or exercise or meditation. If using the room as a meditation or yoga room, pick murals that make you feel peaceful. If you are using it as a dance room, you may want at least one partially mirrored mural, with the rest showcasing art such as Degas or mural photos of dancers that inspire you.
Other unexpected places for murals may be the hallway. Although hallways are not conducive to large murals, small wall murals often fit perfectly within the space of the hall. Some independent stores even sell hallway murals designed specifically for that purpose.
