Though by definition these units are portable, they are still very heavy. There are plenty of tragic things that can happen if you overestimate your strength. Once you lift the unit into the window sill, you still need to keep it there while you secure it. Therefore, it is best to get help during the installation process.

3. Think about Household Security

When you are deciding where to put your air conditioner, you will probably be looking for the most strategic window for cooling the room.  However, you should also note that air conditioners are notoriously an excellent point of entry for robbers.  If you have a window that is higher off the ground than others, intruders will have to increase their own height to take advantage of such an opportunity. If such a window does not exist, then be sure to use the hardware provided with your air conditioner in order to attach it to the window. Many windows are made of metal so you may need to invest in a new drill bit in order to protect your property. The solution will vary with each apartment, but this is not an issue that you should overlook.
