The Pros and Cons of Pet Relocation Services

Staff Writer · Apr 18, 2011

Pet relocation services can help you move pets when you’re moving into a new home across the state, across the country or even across the globe. While you transport your pet yourself, even if taking a flight, consider the pros and cons of hiring a service before you decide.

Pro: One Less Task to Accomplish

Moving is stressful, even when you’re not moving far. Putting your pets in the hands of trustworthy pet relocation services will give you one less task to do. If you’re moving across the country and are taking a plane, you may feel better having your pets transported by van instead of taking them along with you on a stressful flight.

Con: You Can’t (Usually) Monitor Your Pets

While some pet relocation services allow you to check in with the driver during the trip, many do not. Even checking in with the transport driver isn’t the same as having your pet at your side during the move. If you’re moving far enough away, the transportation could take several days. You have to trust the service during this time to take care of your pets.

Pro: Your Pets Get Individual Attention

When you’re moving, you’ll have a lot on your mind and may not be able to give your pets adequate attention. Quality pet relocation services transport only your pets during a trip so they can lavish individual attention on them. This includes taking frequent breaks for feeding, walking and allowing the pets to relieve themselves.

Con: Extra Expense

Although you can shop around for quotes, the fact is that if you use a relocation service, you’ll spend froma couple hundred up to a couple thousand dollars. If you take your pets along with you on a car or plane ride, you can move them for free or at minimal cost.
