Embrace the coziness! Don’t let small rooms in your apartment get you down – there are easy decorating ideas that will make a small room look bigger. Especially in your main room, you want a welcoming space everyone feels happy about being in. Try a couple of these suggestions and watch your space magically expand.

Reflections

A large mirror in a fabulous frame acts as a piece of art and instant room enlarger. Place it in a prominent position in the room – over the couch for example, or opposite a window if possible. The mirror will reflect the natural light and make the entire space not only appear larger but brighter.

See Through Secret

Stick with me here for a minute – consider glass, Plexiglas or Lucite furnishings. Like with a mirror, a glass table top or clear furniture frames can almost give the impression that there is no furniture there. If you aren’t fond of the idea, one piece is enough to trick the eye.

Light = Large

Light rooms give the illusion of being bigger. Choose white, off white or pale hues on your walls to make your space feel airy. Do the same with your furnishings and add some color and personality with a rug, cushions or art work.

Think Up

Putting shelves close to the ceiling gives an illusion of height, and more space to store books or group collections. Also, hang your curtain rods above the window, closer to the ceiling. Floor length curtains will enhance the ‘tallness’ of your room.

Overtime Furnishings

Use two small tables instead of one big one for you coffee table – they’ll take up less space and you can relocate them as needed. Alternatively use a stylish trunk as a table and hidden storage space. Ottomans are another great way to make one piece of furniture do double duty – it can be a table, a spot to sit and some even include storage.

And here’s a bonus tip – if it doesn’t fit, you don’t need! Be strong and purge your home from unnecessary belongings. Your rooms will be happier and roomier for it!
