Not all Bad

I've lived in San Marin at Amherst & Duval for the past year in a 2 bedroom. Never heard of or knew of the place but decided to move b/c of the great deal they gave us which equated to $850/month (gave us one month free). It's a decently nice place to live and my neighbors were cool enough but I have had several issues which people need to know: 1)break-ins-It's not a bad area so much but there have been quite a few. Someone tried to break into my third floor apartment and my neighbor noticed him jimmying the door and called the cops. They have a rent a cop now but they are still occuring and I would suggest leaving appliances on to confuse crooks if you do move in. 2)Management-I can't say too much about this b/c they have changed so much. I think 4 times in the past year and they are hit or miss. Maintenance is good about following up with calls though. 3)Cost-It seems has gone up quite significantly. I wanted to be lazy and resign b/c I need a four month lease and thought they would give me some discount for being a current resident who pays on time and doesnt cause problems but nope. The agent started with a $615 price for 1 bedroom and then I told her it was for a four month lease, it went to $773/month. I only paid $850 for 2, I mean c'mon! Also, from what I hear in the industry, an additional cost for shorter leases is typically $50-$100. Also, they said they could not negotiate or give any discount. 4) The pool sucks. It's always dirty in the pool and there is always white trash around the pool. I'm not a judgemental person in general but am embarrassed by the actions and speech of those around the pool. So much for even getting to look at anyone that is reasonably attractive. 5) Mailbox-They gave us two keys initially but one didnt work. Asked them for another one and they didnt have one. A bit concerning.... They never did get another key and I had to go get a copy made myself. 6) Gate-The gate serves as a nuisance rather than security. You can get in pretty much anytime but have to go in the outgate. If you want a quicker way in, you have to pay for a clicker. There is also not a gate around the rest of the complex so there is really no barrier to the surrounding area. All in all, liveable but only if they give you a good deal and if you know what you're getting into. If you're not going to be home much, don't live here or you will come home to an empty apartment. I hope this serves to inform and hopefully save others the hardships I have dealt with.
