Prior, I lived at Bedford Hills Apts. I was attracted to Amherst Apartments because of the apartment external structure (brick) and it appeared to be a clean and quiet neighborhood. Amherst's Pros: An upgrade from Bedford Hills, pet-friendly, walking distance to Bedford Heights Elementary. I understand that you will have maintenance problems with any apartment complex. It is how it is addressed is what matters. I had recurring maintenance problems that were simply patched and not resolved. I question the integrity of the maintenance crew because they seem to address requests when you are not in the apartment. And if you are there, they close the door so that you don't see what they are doing. In the beginning, I thought Jontal was friendly...even some of the reviews mentioned how she seemed to be the only one in the office that shows some interest in your experience at the complex. Office management do follow-up via email or phone to make sure maintenance have completed the work request. Yet, you can't always trust them when they say they will call you back. There are many pet owners that do not pick up their pets' poop. I wish the pet policy could be better enforced. Garage bins tend to fill to capacity to where people start leaving their trash next go garage bins. This makes the community look unattractive and unkept. I wish this was better monitored. Existing and prospective residents, please document your communication with maintenance and office staff. And pay attention to when your lease ends and the 60-day notification requirement if you are thinking about moving. Some of their practices are shady.
