why did i give this place so much money?

Coming from a very old, very crappy complex, I was pleasantly impressed with what I saw when I toured Colonial Grand apartment complex in the summer of 2008. Spaced out buildings, nice landscaping, aromatherapy-filled office... After I moved in, I can honestly say I experienced the same crap that I had lived through in my old complex (search "The Pavilion" and read up on that dump to get a great mental picture). Okay, seriously, if I'm going to pay over $700 a month to live in a one bedroom apartment, should I be hearing pumped-up bass music and screaming party girls on their second floor balcony until 5 in the morning? Should I see the cheapest possible carpet, paint, cabinetry and appliances surrounding me, literally crumbling to the touch? Do overflowing dumpsters that smell like death tickle your fancy? How about upstairs neighbors that sound like the Harlem Globetrotters on meth? The management threatened to evict me (a normal, regularly paying tenant) TWICE because THEY MISPLACED MY MONEY! Yes, THEM! I also got regular notes on my door complaining to me that I used an ENVELOPE to secure my rent payment. Really? So I should just throw a live check into your open deposit box so you can lose it AGAIN? The utility bills for this place are also out of control. I lived in a building that was near some kind of sprinkler water main, and that thing was ALWAYS gushing water all year long. Nobody ever did anything about it! The post office drop off box was broken since before I moved in, so I couldn't mail anything from the premises, I had to find a mailbox elsewhere because they NEVER fixed it. The front gate broke about twice a month. It was constantly open for about 80% of the time I lived there. I saw repairmen working on it several times, but to no avail. Oh well, up goes my rent to pay for that endless problem, right? Either the management either completely doesn't care OR they waste tons of money to continually "fix" things that are broken again the next day. THANKFULLY, I have since moved out of that badly-run place and today I received a bill for over $300 from them for "Trash, Water & Fees." So why did I give them a deposit when I moved in? Did they use that money towards the Glade Plug-In budget? Either way, I'm a very unsatisfied renter. If you want to live in the ------ and save yourself some money, I fully support you. If you want to live in the ------ and spend $700 a month lying to yourself that the Colonial Grand Apartments are better, you're an idiot.
