Resident 2020

DONT RENT HERE. The pictures on the website are NOT what the units look like in real life. Maybe the "models," but nothing else. The walls are thin, the floors shake, the counters are hideous, and the front desk is FAKE! They're super nice until you have an issue: 1) we had fraud on our account and all payments were frozen until the police department (yes, the police department! THATS how bad the fraud was) arrested the man that stole around $3,000. Every company was understanding that we couldn't pay our bills until our money was returned and our accounts were unfrozen. But STRAIGHT OUT OF CHUCK MOON'S MOUTH: "I'm sorry ma'am, but we couldn't refund someone who had died, so I can't refund you for this" - which was $725+. SOMEONE WHO HAD DIED didn't pay their rent on time (BC THEY WERE DEAD) and their family members couldn't get late fees waived???? 2) during a GLOBAL PANDEMIC, they came up with every reason not to help set up the rent assistance program. They asked for ONE document that proved we both had been laid off, but continued to ask for more. First, it was a letter indicating that the place of business was shutting down, then it was pay stubs, then it was a full understanding of what the circumstances around our lack of income was. Once we emailed everything to Mr. Chuck, he disappeared completely. We dug deep into our emergency savings to pay for rent because we didn't want to accrue late charges (see above). So, in the middle of the world burning, they took $2900+ from two unemployed college students. 3) at the beginning of the lease, you are offered a refundable deposit of $150 (refundable only if your apartment at move-out is move-in ready for the next people) or a non-refundable $75 deposit. They call this $75 non-refundable a "Smart Savings Deal" or something like that. It is intended for people who don't have enough money to pay a $150 deposit at the beginning. What they don't tell you though is that the $150 deposit which may be used toward cleaning at the end of your lease may be used toward any "damages" (i.e. ashes in the fireplace) while the $75 non-refundable deposit is simply a way for MAA to make more money. That being said, we (as two broke college students with a young child) decided to opt into the $75 non-refundable deposit, with expectations that they would delve into that to pay for whatever "damages" they worked hard enough to find. My friends lost their $150 refundable deposits for cleaning purposes, which was another reason we opted for the $75 non-refundable. However, I have a $270 charge for "damages" including ashes in the fireplace, crumbs in the microwave, and a dirty oven. The worst part about everything is that when you begin to complain, they make no effort to resolve the issue and make you feel like you're the problem. When I explained to Courtney my issue with offering a $75 Savings Plan (directed toward people who do not have the means to afford a $150 refundable deposit upon move-in) only to be paying more in total at the end of move-out (my friends, as you'll remember lost their $150 deposit while I lost $75 and $270), her response was "That's not fair." She also told me I could waste my time by driving over there to have Chuck Moon tell me that they wouldn't refund anybody even if they died. I guess I'm just saying I'd save your money and go elsewhere. The apartments aren't even that nice, and DEFINITELY not worth the price. They are not at all what the pictures on their website look like. Thankfully, we moved to a newer apartment complex that is bigger, nicer, in a cleaner and more affluent area, and over $200 LESS per month than here at CG@BC. For thin walls, shaky floors, dark apartments, outdated and lowkey ------ cabinetry/appliances, they expected us to pay ~$1540. Our new apartment is $1319 and by Glade Parks (aka that awesome Target and HomeGoods)
