READ BEFORE YOU RENT

This has got to be the worst apartment complex I have ever rented from in my life. Our story is a long one, and I hope you take the time to read it all of the way through. My wife and I flew to Ft Worth from out of state to find an apartment to rent for a year while we were there for business. Avery Pointe quoted us a very reasonable price to include a washer and dryer, and pets. After spending several hours in the office trying to complete the application process (which became very complex, as the office staff entered our information incorrectly on three seperate occasions when trying to runa background check), we finally gave them three seperate checks: security deposit, application fee, and administrative fee; and flew back home. About one week after we flew home, we received a call from the office person that had taken our money asking if we "still wanted to rent the apartment we had agreed on". ?!?!?!. We thought that was what we left the deposit for. They then informed us that they had rented the apartment we agreed to rent out from under us. After getting in contact with the Regional Manager, we settled on the apartment directly below our orignal apartment on our agreed upon rent. After driving three days to our new home (with a cat), we waited about 2 hours in the office while they tried to straighten out our lease. Fortunately, my car has an autostart, so we were able to keep the car running and the A/C on so the cat didn't die in the July heat. Through our year stay there, there are many more examples of the poor management of this property (to include the "new" management staff that is "better"), but now, after a little more than a month after we moved out of state, we finally received our Move Out Statement (prepared on the 24th of August, not mailed until the 17th of September, addressed to our address while we lived there). Our Move Out Statement had many errors: wrong rent, damage that wasn't there when we did our walk through, charged us for cleaning the apartment (honest to God, it was cleaner when we left than when we moved in), completely ignored the $50 deposit each for our two gate openers. Trust me. DO NOT RENT FROM THESE PEOPLE UNLESS YOU ENJOY AN ENDLESS HEADACHE. All of our previous land lords were very nice, respectful, attentive, and VALUED us as renters. I have never been so aggrivated or simply shocked at how disrespectful and dishonest these people have and can be.
