You get what you pay for

This place is what can only be described as a serious lesson in weighing the pros and cons: On the one hand, location is spectacular and compared to the complexes surrounding it the price is incredibly low. Sound proofing seems to be pretty good as well, as I have rarely heard a peep from any of my neighbors unless I'm passing right by their front door. Maintenance is fairly quick about getting someone in to fix a problem. These units are also very large, and designed in such a way that a tenant doesn't have to try very hard to utilize all the space available. The convenience store located within the complex is also a decent plus. The atmosphere outside is pretty nice, lots of greenery line the roads within and it feels almost like a small community unto itself. On the other hand, this place is old. It's old enough that the lease still has bits in it regarding lead paint and asbestos that is still in each unit. Because it is so old, many of the complaints outlined in other reviews here are absolutely true. Things break down a lot. Recently, the power shorted in half of my unit and when I called maintenance to deal with it, they informed me that at least 5 of the outlets in my unit were completely shot and the rest weren't even properly grounded. My refrigerator has sprung a leak on five different occasions now, and each time maintenance has come out to fix it only for the leak to come back a month or two later. My A/C has turned into a waterfall no less than four times in the year I've been here (which has messed up my bathroom in several other ways I won't even bother to mention), which brings me to the point that while maintenance is indeed quick, they cannot be called thorough. Parking is getting pretty bad now, and there are a disturbing number of reserved spots scattered about that never seem to have vehicles in them. The water and power outages are fairly frequent, and while management tends to blame the city for them, I like others here suspect it has more to do with the age of the complex than anything else. I'm not sure how management scales the water bills, but mine tends to be extremely high considering I live alone and have no washer in my unit. All in all, if convenient proximity to the Med Center is your only concern, then this is a place worth considering. Otherwise, you're probably better off looking elsewhere. I myself will not stay past the end of my current lease, and would not recommend this place to anyone else if they were to ask me about it.
