get what you pay for
I rented in Houston for 9 years, and the first 4 I spent at Brompton Courts. The price was right, and it seemed to be tucked away on a quiet street. It was quiet, but that isn't always a great thing (to follow). It seems it is so quiet that people could break into the mail boxes and steal mail/identities without being seen- and that is quite a feet since you have to open the mail boxes for about a hundred units at a time with a huge swinging door. This happened twice during my stay and inspired my eventual move. I was also followed home by a con-man once who tried to get into my apartment for god nows what terrible reason... I called the office and they seemed unconcerned but told me to call the cops myself (which I did and he was arrested). The hallways are also dark and dangerous. My parents came down, declared it unnacceptable and demanded to subsidize my rent so that I could move to a nicer place (The Greenbriar Apartments).

Pros:
cheap
quiet
big apartments
well insulated (cheap electricity bills)
nice trees
close to a bus stop/Randalls/shopping center

Cons:
dark hallways
Dangerous
long gaps before maintenance gets in (my apt. flooded b/c it took maintenance until the next day to fix the toilet)
ground units flood with storms
