Resident ā€¢ 2009 - 2012

Poor management makes Brompton Court a wonderful place not to live

I've been living in Brompton Court for almost three years. I moved into a 1br apartment first in 2009 and then transferred to a 2br one one year later. During my first year of stay, everything was just as good as what you paid for the price. Brompton Court is located in a good neighborhood and is close to almost everything. The buildings were constructed in the 1970s but are in relative good shape compared to other old properties. After the takeover of the new management (Merion), many things just started getting worse and worse. 1. I have to complain about the incompetence of the current staff, although they always appear to be nice and helpful. One problem of them is that they cannot do their maths right. We paid our rent on time every month. However, for at least 4 or 5 times, we got notices and warnings about mysterious balance in our account that came from nowhere. They even issued me an eviction notice once due to a huge amount of balance in my account that shouldn't have existed. We later figured out that the only way to deal with people of limited quantitative ability was to print out the long spreadsheet and do the calculations in front of them. That solved the problem of being warned even after you paid your rent ON TIME. 2. Maintenance. Maintenance used to be pretty good. Most of the work orders I have submitted could be done in very timely fashion and the maintenance workers are really nice. Once again, the new management makes repairs of little things such as garbage disposal into missions impossible. Last summer, I unfortunately had the experience of sitting in my 89F room to study for a very important exam for three days. This time, the garbage disposal has stopped working for 5 days. It stopped suddenly when I was cooking so things were left down the sink for 5 days too! I have called in at least 3 times and got the answer "we will have it fixed by today" every time. They are truly indifferent about the inconvenience and discomfort you are suffering from. 3. Safety. I used to think this apartment complex was very safe until my car got broken in in 2010. I heard there were also burglaries occasionally but we've never got a notice for that kind of things. That's something I can live without so it's fine for me. 4. Water and electricity outage happened several times a year. We were always told those were required by the City of Houston. I sometimes doubted it but my memory about such hassles gets faded away quickly. In general, Brompton Court is an affordable option in a nice neighborhood. If you have limited budget, want to live in a good neighborhood, and, most importantly, are okay to deal with bad management, you might want to consider staying here. Our lease will be up by the end of June and we are probably just moving out. In addition, the rent was raised by $55 $25 valet trash fee per month. With that quality of management, I wouldn't stay even if they gave me cash back every month for my rent! Just for the management team, if you can see it. Caring about your residents is not all about sending out emails on holidays and asking people what you can do to make their Mother's Day better. It is about helping our your residents at the right time in an effective way.
