A pretty good experience

I lived in the apartments about a year, and for the most part, had a good experience. I lived on a first floor unit, and surprisingly, it never flooded. I moved out b/c I took a job in another city. I had one experience which made me furious, and I will detail that below. Also, most of my living in this apt. was done under the "old" management, so things might be different with the "new" mgmt. I know one convenience that was taken away was online rent pay. Positives and negatives are outlined below.<br><br>Positives:<br><br>-Cheap shuttle service to the medical center, which can be very handy to students/workers. <br><br>-Very convenient (and safe) location--close to Rice Village, Reliant, Med Center, shopping and major highways (without being *too* close).<br><br>-Huge, spacious apartment. Wonderful walk-in closet. It makes units I've been looking at recently seem *so* tiny. <br><br>-Ample parking, both covered and non-covered (at least, this was true around the building that I lived).<br><br>-I felt very safe there as a single woman living on the first floor. Never noticed any suspicious activity, and neither car nor apartment was broken into. <br><br>-Office staff tried to remember names. Generally had positive expereinces with office staff, though some not so great. <br><br>-Notices regularly sent regarding events/incidences (e.g. water shut off, apt. fire, etc.).<br><br>-Didn't need maintenance very often, thankfully, but when I did the problems were fixed within 1 day. Sometimes, though, I needed to call more than once.<br><br>-Personally, my water and electric bills were reasonable. Electric--depends on company and usage. Water bills ran about $8-15/mo.<br><br>-They are refurbing many units, and it is worth it to rent one of these. I had new carpet, paint, built-in microwave, stove and crown molding.<br><br>-I found this complex to be generally quite overall. Sometimes I could hear my neighboors to where it was irritating, but for the most part, it was nice and quiet. <br><br>-Onsite convenience store was rather convenient for minor things, if needed.<br><br>Negatives:<br><br>-During the first several months of my residence at Brompton, they sent out *tons* of notices about water being shut off--pretty much a weekly basis. This actually never affected me, b/c the shut-off times where when I was away from the unit, but I see how it *could* be frustrating to those still at home.<br><br>-Lots of little critters (bugs) that hang around the perimeter of the apartment. They actually didn't bother me too much, but perhaps they would others. They were mainly small, harmless jumping spiders, pill-bugs and maybe a few June bugs. I only ever saw one roach.<br><br>-Rent increase upon renewal was ridiculously high. I don't remember the percentage.<br><br>-A couple of times, my mail was not picked up by the mailperson. Very frustrating.<br><br>-The most frustrating part: I needed to renew, and they would *not* give me the price quotes for renewal until they sent out my renewal letter. Time was of the essence, as my 60 notice to vacate was quickly approaching. I had no idea if I would stay or go. I went in several times--and I always seemed to end up speaking with the same guy--and he told me "not to worry" about giving notice until the renewal letter was sent to my door. He said he would "write it in my chart" that I came by. A (very) long story short, it was proven that he never wrote anything in my chart. He apparently lied to my face each time.<br><br>****<br>After cooling down from the experience above, I have to admit that I did, overall, have a good experience at Brompton. Since I recently moved out, we will see if this continues (e.g. mgmt. billing me for unnecessary charges after move-out, which I'm keeping my eye out on since I left the apartment in wonderful condition).
