Resident 2007

8/13/2007

Not Horrible, But Not Luxury

Let me start with the good things: Location-The complex is within minutes of Hwy 59, Hwy 90, and Beltway 8. Traveling is very easy on days with little traffic. Floorplans-I'm currently renting a one bedroom with a study (889 square feet), and really like the layout. For $860 monthly (not counting water, pest, or trash, which is about an extra $30) it's really nice, especially for this area. The bathroom is a very nice size and even has a built in vanity, which I love. All apartments come with full size washers and dryers. Maintenance/Staff-Very few problems there. I was very pleased that the carpeting had been changed when I moved in. And any time I had an issue that needed immediate attention, it was solved that day, sometimes within hours. All the ladies in the office seem very sweet and willing to work with you, especially the new manager. I can tell that they care about their residents. All the maintenance guys seem nice and were very professional and polite. There were some things I put a request in for that weren't attended to until days later, but I told the manager that it wasn't urgent. Resident Activities-They hold events here for the residents a few times a month like Poker Night, Movie Night, Sunday Brunch, etc. Unfortunately I have been unable to attend any of the events, however all the residents I've met so far seem very nice and helpful. Now for the things that could be improved: Overall building maintenance-This property is ten years old. I get that. However, aside from the landscaping which is beautiful, let's just say you can tell this place is older. The steps and outside walkways need to be pressure washed and scrubbed with a venegance. There's green stuff and other stains everywhere. I was not pleased to find half my balcony covered in green stuff and dirt when I moved in. The black wire railings that surround the buildings are rusted and need to be painted. In my actual unit, the linoleum in the kitchen and bathroom have marks and scrapes on it and look like it should've been replaced long ago. All the cabinetry needs to be refinished and again, look as though this should've happened a long time ago. For close to $900 a month for rent, I really don't think it's too much to ask to have decent looking cabinets. All the applicances are ancient. I didn't even know they still made microwaves without carousels. Parking-It is horrible. I recommend spending the $20 a month for a reserved covered space or you will be frustrated and angry coming home late. Trash Dumpsters-This situation has gotten better, but there are still times when it is overflowing. Noisy Neighbors-There are many families with children here so they are noisy at times. I'll never forget this one time I was up at 11:00 on a weeknight to hear some kids running around and knocking on doors. Connections-The ONLY cable, internet, and/or phone connections you can get is either through TVMAX, Windstream, DPi or some other piss ant company. TVMAX is substandard and always cuts out on your favorite shows. Forget about Comcast, AT&T/SBC, Verizon, or any other major and much better company servicing your place because the property won't allow it. I guess the only way to give these second-rate companies business is to force you to use them. You can get a dish, but only if you have a south facing apartment. Overall, it is not a bad place, but it is not luxury either. If you're looking for an affordable place in this area, I would recommend it. However, if you can spend a little more, you will likely get more for your money.
