Resident 2001 - 2002

8/8/2002

Go somewhere where the management actually appreciates its tenants- this isn´t it!

There was a management change during my tenure, and the different in attitude was palpable. I heard management ridiculing the occasional tenant, they riduculed a friend´s financial situation to staff with other tenants in earshot, and they were beyond rude to me right before my lease expired when I was deciding to stay or leave (guess which I chose). For example, when parking permit reassignment came up, the manager revoked permits for the garage from a number of long-standing tenants and reassigned them outside- without advance notice. The result? An almost-empty garage and a waiting list for an outside spot. Not a great allocation of resources.

If you like sleeping before 11 or after 6:30, forget it unless your neighbors do, too, or you´re a heavy sleeper. The pipes to every shower are poorly insulated, so they make a very loud, high-pitched screeching noise throughout the apartments when a neighbor showers (upstairs, downstairs, next door- doesn´t matter). They are very, very strict about turning the air conditioning or heat on at the start of the season, so bring a fan if you want to sleep in the late spring and have slippers handy for the fall. If you´re on the courtyard side of the building, watch out for the pigeon problem- they´ll land all over your balcony and cover it (and anything on it) in guano. The low security deposit sounds like a deal, until you find out from the other tenants that they simply keep it no matter how nice the apartment is. If you´ve got a bug problem that can´t be solved with roach spray, you pay extra for the extermination. They crammed so many spaces in the parking lot that I can guarantee your car will be dinged and scratched within a month (no matter how careful you park) and spaces are first-come, first-serve, so you may not get a space, and you´ll never know who parks next to you. Guest parking is basically unavailable on weekends. The "fitness" room consists of 2 treadmills, a stepper, a bike and an all-in-one weight machine. If you have to do your laundry, only put one quarter in the dryer at any one time, since at least one dryer is always malfunctioning, and you won´t know until you´ve turned it on whether you are the day´s lottery winner.

On the good side, the front desk and janitorial staff (totally underpaid) are nice, but they can´t do anything about the management. I´d planned to stay for 2-3 years, and I´m leaving after 1. The prices are simply not worth the aggravation.
