Not worth it! VERY LONG REVIEW, beware :)

I agree with many of the "NO" opinions listed here. This was my very first apartment as I am a recent college grad, and when I first saw the rent (1430 for a renovated 760 sq ft 1 bedroom--60 sq ft is a "den" that is the size of a small storage closet!) I almost didn't sign the lease. I convinced myself it was worth it for the convenience to my office (near Tysons II) and 495 and 66. I figured I was paying for the convenience. But seriously, this place is not worth it. I would rather pay a little more out in a nice, new high rise in Ballston or Arlington AND deal with a longer commute than renew this lease. I have 2 cats... I was told there was simply a 1-time deposit of $300 TOTAL for pets when I first started thinking about this apartment. What helped make my decision was no monthly pet rent. HOWEVER, the day I moved in and signed my lease, I was informed they changed the policy to $300 PLUS $30 a month PER PET. Ridiculous. RIP OFF. The noise level is atrociuos. I am on the 2nd floor, with neighbors below and above me. I not only hear the 2 large dogs running around upstairs all hours of the night, but I hear ACTUAL CONVERSATIONS of the people below me. I have taken to sleeping with 2 fans on in my bedroom so I don't hear them. The walls are so thin. Parking has been bad at times. If you get home anytime after 7, you will park a ways away especially if you are in a middle, corner building like mine. The reserved spots are complete crap too. I can't believe people actually pay $30 a month for those...And it just means people who really can't afford $30 on top of $1430 plus $30 pet rent can't find parking close to their buildings. The "fitness center" is gross and outdated (the tysons glen one, the devonshire is nice and I think you can use your pass to get in there too, but i don't feel like going all the way over there) Kitchen is SMALL and very very little cabinets/drawers. The L-shaped bar is a waste of space and stupid in my opinion--would have appreciated more cabinets and countertops there. I also didn't have water for an entire day while they were fixing plumbing. This has happened 3 times in the 6 months I've lived there. PLUMBING SUCKS! It also smells terrible in the hallway. Wet dog, dirty dog, and smoke. YUCK! (I am biased, I don't really enjoy living in a dog-friendly place) My final complaint is that I pay $100 extra a month for a "renovated" apartment--I have had to call them in to fix my dishwasher twice and my hot water heater did not even work the DAY i moved in. I had cold water for 4 days (in january), then they came and "fixed" it and I had hot water. HOT boiling water only. It still doesnt work right out of my kitchen faucet--it's only hot water. My washer/dryer is off balance and the knobs don't match up. Also I don't even have a screen in my bedroom window and had to call to get a screen on my balcony the DAY i moved in. Good points: Beautiful gardens and places to walk, convenient to many places/roads, helpful and friendly management staff, good if you DO like big dogs, decent pool, guest parking is pretty easy, very large bedroom, good toilet (toto is the design)--never had any issues in the bathroom actually, and decent sized balcony.
