Resident 2011

4/21/2011

I haven't moved in yet and I already see problems

Maybe I'm biased but one cockroach is one toooooooo many. I signed my lease at the beginning of this month and I haven't even moved in yet. I've seen roaches galore. I'm on a first level apartment so I guess bugs are to be expected but I'm not a roach person and I've seen several. I informed the leasing office and they had pest control come out and spray but I think because the neighbors are ok with their bugs this is going to be a problem for me for the rest of my one yr lease. They did come out and do something because I saw several dead roaches and I thought the problem was fixed but after being in my apartment for a few hours, trying to clean and everything before my furniture is delivered, I saw a live one in the bathroom and a huuuge one crawling across the stove. This was after I sprayed raid behind the stove so I think I found one of their nests...ewww! The maintenance crew is very friendly, helpful and responsive. They've already fixed alot of things I initially saw wrong with the place. There isn't much ceiling lighting. In a two bed, 1 bath, there are no overhead lights in either bedroom or the living room area. You'll have to get alot of floor and table lamps. The bedrooms are decent size but the kitchen is tight! So tight that i can only fit one extra appliance in it(I have to buy a microwave cart and a microwave to go on it). Aaron has been great when I can get a hold of him. Jackie doesn't really seem to know much about the complex, leasing procedures, or anything for that matter. She was able to call pest control and for that, to her, I am grateful. Maybe she's new and still learning. I'll give her the benefit of the doubt. Parking is horrible. If you get home after 6:30pm on any given day, don't expect to find parking. Expect to be on the street and walking up to your place which doesn't particularly seem safe. The security they have is there for 8 hours in the evening of his choosing. Meaning, if he gets there at 8pm, he leaves at 4am. If he gets there at 6pm, he leaves at 2am. So robbers can schedule their robberies around his shift schedule. Pest control really needs to do more than spray. They need to bomb. Seriously! This is my first apartment experience so I'm new at this, but I believe I will only be here for one year. I've already had dreams of roaches snuggling next to me in my bed and I haven't even moved in yet. Not cool!
