Resident 960950

Verified Resident 2018 - 2021

10/13/2021

I have been here for 13 years and loved this community for many of those years. However, in the past 4+ years I feel that the community has really gone downhill. This is supposed to be a luxuryish complex, but it sure does not seem that way anymore. The grounds are not kept as nice as they used to be, Curb appeal does not seem to be their thing. They are filling areas that used to have grass with rocks, it really looks awful as there is no rhyme or reason to it. Grass seed and hay costs way less than rocks and looks much better. The dumpsters were downsized and because of this we have garbage issues/overflowing dumpsters and a rat & bug problem. There have been more than two handfuls of crimes committed on the property, car vandalism, catalytic converter thefts, assaults' (on the grounds and in the laundry/storage areas), storage locker break in's, at least 4 shootings, drug dealing at the eastern side of the community, I do not feel safe. The new towing company is consistently towing residents' cars that have the parking permit displayed in their windows. When a car is towed and they say anything to management they are told to bad and that we have to reach out to the tow company. We had a neighbor that would blast their music till all hours of the night, I called the office and the Assistant manager told me to call the police, so I did. The next day I received a scathing letter from the manager scolding me for calling the police and advising that I should have given management the opportunity to deal with the issue. I had called management several times about the noise issue to no avail and I was told to call the police by management. We handed in our card for access to the pool, etc. about 2 years ago . . . as we were made to feel unwelcome by the staff, they would close the pool, fitness center, club house earlier than the hours posted, knit pick the adults using the pool, which is rare, it is usually the kids enjoying the pool. The pass/card was turned into the manager, placed directly into his hand, now they are stating that they never received it. There has been a bedbug outbreak at the community, I am not sure for how long, but it is now policy that the tenants pay for extermination services, this is ridiculous! The sump pumps and water softeners were shut down, so the basements now flood, and our plumbing is becoming consistently bad with mineral, and rust build up. I am in a 2nd floor unit; we have had several plumbing issues where the toilet has over flowed or something has been leaking. I feel bad for the person(s) living below us. I call the office to report the water issue, and because I am on the 2nd floor and we only have one bathroom, I was under the impression that it would be an emergency as you now have 2 units getting wet. Each time this has happened, they schedule maintenance for the following day. Our toilet still overflows and is not fixed. There is never any preventative maintenance done, when maintenance is here, they do not take that extra step to see if there are any other leaks or other issues. Our dining room light sparks if we try and move it down the track, maintenance has been here twice for this and it still sparks. When we have heavy rain, the fan above out stove leaks and out stove gets soaking wet. I have noticed that more recently, there are water marks/bubbles on the kitchen ceiling that are new. I received a new balcony last year or the previous year and it still has not been painted or stained. I am grateful that I received a new balcony, and I understand it is pressure treated wood but, some units with naked balconies and some with painted balconies, it makes the property look unkept and shabby. Because the basements have flooded and minimal cleanup was done, there are now mold issues. And I can just imagine how much mold is between my unit and the unit below me with the leaks and toilet overflows. The washers and the dryers in the basements are not clean and I do not think they have been cleaned or maintenance since the last flood. The smaller building as you come into the community to the south, has a bad mold issue, the back wall siding is covered in mold, and I shudder to think what is under the siding. I have a work associate that live in that building that is consistently having health issues and I wonder if it is due to the mold. With being here for 13 years, we have never been offered anything for being loyal and renewing out lease year after year. We do not have blinds, our carpet has never been cleaned, we have not been offered a paint refresh or anything. I just think that this on-site management team is not up to par and are making poor decisions that are not thought through. They may be saving money now but are really costing more in the future. When I have gone to the office or called, I have received one answer from Joy and a different answer from Greg. I also get a lot of I don't know answers, or they are just unresponsive and/or rude. We get the impression that we are bothering them. Overall, I find the onsite management team rude and unprofessional. With the crimes that have been happening on site, it is tenants that are committing the crimes, I wonder, are background checks being done, are the prospective residents really checked out. I know when I applied here, I was thoroughly checked out and was asked about things that might affect my ability to rent a Briarwick. In the beginning, I loved this community and I told friends and co-workers about it, how wonderful it is and the property was so beautiful and park like and always recommended Briarwick to anyone who was looking for a new place to rent. I do not do that anymore; I am no longer proud of where I live.
